  1. Frame Assembly: Assemble the bed frame according to the separate instructions. Important: Do NOT install the slat base if you intend to use this as a waterbed. The waterbed system replaces the need for a traditional slat base.
  2. Foam Frame Installation: Place the foam frame inside the assembled bed frame. Ensure it fits snugly.
  3. Heater Placement: Carefully place the waterbed heater on the base inside the foam frame. Ensure it is centered and flat. Follow the heater's specific instructions for electrical connection.
  4. Mattress Placement: Unfold the waterbed mattress and place it inside the foam frame, ensuring it is centered and flat.
  5. Filling the Mattress:
    • Connect a water hose to the mattress fill valve.
    • Slowly fill the mattress with lukewarm water. As it fills, smooth out any air bubbles or wrinkles from the center outwards.
    • Fill until the water level is just below the top of the foam frame when you lie on it. Do not overfill.
    • Once filled, remove the hose and securely close the fill valve.
  6. Mattress Cover Installation: Place the waterbed mattress cover over the filled mattress and secure it according to its design (usually zippers or elastic bands).
  7. Thermostat Control: Connect the thermostat control to the heater and plug it into a grounded electrical outlet. Set the desired temperature.

Operating Your Waterbed

Temperature Control

The waterbed heater maintains a comfortable sleeping temperature. Use the thermostat control to adjust the temperature to your preference. It may take several hours for the water to reach the set temperature initially.

Wave Reduction Levels

Your waterbed mattress offers various wave reduction levels (e.g., no reduction, medium, strong, or total). The specific wave reduction level was chosen during purchase. This affects the movement and stability of the water within the mattress.

Mono or Dual System

Depending on your selection, your waterbed may have a mono (single) or dual (two separate) mattress system. Dual systems allow for individual temperature control and wave reduction settings for each side of the bed.

Maintenance

Waterbed Conditioner

It is crucial to add waterbed conditioner to the mattress every 6-12 months (as per conditioner instructions). This prevents the growth of algae, bacteria, and fungi, which can damage the mattress material and cause odors. Two bottles of conditioner are included with your purchase.

Cleaning

  • Mattress Surface: Periodically wipe the vinyl surface of the mattress with a damp cloth and a mild vinyl cleaner (specifically designed for waterbeds). Avoid harsh chemicals.
  • Mattress Cover: The mattress cover can typically be removed and machine washed according to its care label.
  • Upholstered Frame: Clean the upholstered bed frame with a soft brush or vacuum cleaner. For spills, blot immediately with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Air Removal

Over time, air bubbles may accumulate in the mattress, causing gurgling sounds. To remove air, open the fill valve and gently push the air towards the opening using a waterbed air pump or by hand, then reseal the valve.
