3. Setup

Before using the clutch puller, ensure your vehicle is safely secured and the engine is off and cool. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific instructions on accessing the drive clutch.

  1. Vehicle Preparation: Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake. For UTVs, ensure the transmission is in neutral or park.
  2. Access Clutch: Remove any covers, guards, or components necessary to gain clear access to the drive clutch. This may involve removing side panels or floorboards.
  3. Clean Clutch Area: Thoroughly clean any dirt, debris, or grease from around the clutch and the clutch bolt hole. This prevents contamination and ensures proper engagement of the puller.
  4. Inspect Clutch Bolt Hole: Verify that the internal threads of the clutch bolt hole are clean and free of damage.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to safely remove your drive clutch using the DCP15 puller.

  1. Remove Clutch Bolt: Locate and remove the existing clutch retaining bolt from the center of the drive clutch. Set it aside.
  2. Insert Puller: Carefully thread the SuperATV DCP15 Drive Clutch Puller into the clutch bolt hole by hand. Ensure it threads smoothly and does not cross-thread.
  3. Tighten Puller: Once the puller is hand-tight, use an appropriate wrench (not included) on the hexagonal head of the puller. Slowly and steadily turn the puller clockwise.
  4. Apply Pressure: Continue to turn the puller. You will feel increasing resistance as the puller begins to exert pressure on the clutch. The clutch will eventually pop free from the crankshaft taper. This may occur with a loud "pop" sound, which is normal.
  5. Remove Clutch and Puller: Once the clutch is free, unthread the puller counter-clockwise and remove it. Then, carefully remove the drive clutch from the crankshaft.

Caution: Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, when using this tool. Do not use impact wrenches or excessive force, as this can damage the clutch, crankshaft, or the puller itself. If the clutch does not release, re-check your vehicle's service manual for specific procedures or consult a qualified mechanic.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance will extend the life of your SuperATV Drive Clutch Puller.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the puller thoroughly to remove any dirt, grease, or metal shavings. Use a clean cloth and a mild degreaser if necessary.
  • Lubrication: Apply a light coat of anti-seize compound or grease to the threads of the puller before storage to prevent corrosion and ensure smooth operation for future use.
  • Storage: Store the puller in a dry, clean environment to prevent rust and damage.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the puller for any signs of wear, bending, or thread damage. Do not use a damaged puller.
