4. Setup and Driver Installation
4.1. Driver Installation (Windows)
Before plugging in the WiFi adapter, it is recommended to install the drivers first. If your computer has an existing wired internet connection, you can download the latest drivers from the Techkey official website. Otherwise, use the provided Mini-CD or USB drive.
- Insert the driver Mini-CD/USB drive into your computer's optical drive/USB port.
- Navigate to the drive and locate the "Setup.exe" file (or similar installer).
- Double-click the installer and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the driver installation.
- Restart your computer if prompted.
4.2. Connecting the Adapter
- Carefully screw the two antennas onto the adapter's connectors.
- Plug the USB WiFi adapter into an available USB 3.0 port on your desktop PC or laptop. For optimal performance, use a USB 3.0 port (usually blue inside).
- Adjust the antennas for best signal reception.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Connecting to a Wi-Fi Network
- After successful driver installation and adapter connection, your computer should detect available Wi-Fi networks.
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon in your system tray (usually bottom-right on Windows, top-right on Mac).
- Select your desired Wi-Fi network (SSID) from the list.
- Enter the network security key (password) if prompted.
- Click "Connect".
5.2. Dual-Band Functionality
The adapter supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi bands. The 2.4GHz band offers wider coverage and better penetration through walls, while the 5GHz band provides faster speeds and less interference, ideal for streaming and gaming.
- If your router broadcasts both bands with different SSIDs (e.g., "MyWiFi_2.4GHz" and "MyWiFi_5GHz"), you can manually select the preferred band.
- For optimal performance in close proximity to the router, connect to the 5GHz network.
- For better range and stability over longer distances or through obstacles, connect to the 2.4GHz network.

6. Maintenance
The Techkey AC1300Mbps Wireless USB WiFi Adapter requires minimal maintenance. Keep the device clean and free from dust. Avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures or humidity. Ensure the antennas are not bent or damaged, as this can affect performance.
7. Troubleshooting
7.1. No Wi-Fi Networks Detected
- Check Driver Installation: Ensure the drivers are correctly installed. Re-run the setup program if necessary.
- Verify Adapter Connection: Make sure the adapter is securely plugged into a working USB port. Try a different USB port.
- Antenna Position: Adjust the antennas to an upright position for better signal reception.
- Router Status: Ensure your Wi-Fi router is powered on and broadcasting a signal.
7.2. Slow Connection Speed or Frequent Disconnections
- Signal Strength: Check the Wi-Fi signal strength. If it's low, try moving closer to the router or adjusting antenna positions.
- Band Selection: Experiment with connecting to the 2.4GHz band (for range) or 5GHz band (for speed) depending on your environment and distance from the router.
- USB Port: Ensure the adapter is plugged into a USB 3.0 port for maximum speed.
- Interference: Other electronic devices (microwaves, cordless phones) can cause interference. Try to minimize these or move the adapter away from them.
- Driver Update: Check the Techkey website for the latest drivers.
7.3. Adapter Not Recognized
- USB Port Check: Try plugging the adapter into a different USB port.
- Device Manager (Windows): Open Device Manager and check if the adapter is listed under "Network adapters" or "Other devices". If it has a yellow exclamation mark, re-install the drivers.
- Compatibility: Ensure your operating system (Windows 11/10/8.1/8/7, Mac OS 10.9-10.15) is supported.
