2. Safety Instructions

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, and a dust mask, to prevent exposure to soot and debris.
  • Ensure the chimney or duct system is cool before beginning any cleaning operation.
  • Verify that all connections are secure before applying rotational force or inserting the rods into the flue.
  • Exercise caution when working at heights. Use stable ladders or platforms as required.
  • Do not force rods or attachments if resistance is encountered; investigate the cause of the obstruction.
  • Keep children and pets away from the work area during cleaning operations.
  • If using a cordless drill, ensure it is set to a low speed and appropriate torque to avoid damage to the rods or flue.

4. Setup and Assembly

The Snap & Sweep system utilizes quick-connectors for efficient assembly.

  1. Connecting Rods: To connect two cleaning rods, align the male end of one rod with the female receptacle of another. Push firmly until the snap-in mechanism engages, securing the connection. Ensure a audible 'click' is heard, indicating a secure lock.
  2. Attaching Cleaning Tools: Select the appropriate cleaning tool (e.g., Perlon brush, nylon wire attachment) for your task. Align the tool's connector with the female receptacle of the last rod in your assembly. Push firmly until it snaps into place.
  3. Using the Drill Adaptor: For powered cleaning, attach the drill adaptor to the end of your rod assembly. The adaptor allows connection to a cordless drill or screwdriver. Ensure the drill is set to a low speed and appropriate torque.
  4. Using the Push Rod with Handle: For manual operation or initial insertion, attach the push rod with handle piece to the end of your rod assembly.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 General Cleaning Procedure

  1. Prepare the work area by laying down a protective sheet or the system's carrying bag to catch debris.
  2. Assemble the required length of rods and attach the appropriate cleaning tool.
  3. Carefully insert the cleaning tool and rod assembly into the chimney or duct opening.
  4. Gradually push the rods upwards or forwards, adding additional rods as needed.
  5. For manual cleaning, use a back-and-forth or rotational motion. For powered cleaning, engage the drill at a low speed, allowing the brush to rotate and dislodge debris.
  6. Work systematically through the entire length of the flue or duct.
  7. Once cleaning is complete, carefully retract the rods, disconnecting them one by one.
  8. Clean up all dislodged soot and debris from the fireplace, stove, or vent opening.

5.2 Chimney Cleaning

The Perlon brush is suitable for general soot removal in various chimney types. For more aggressive creosote removal, the nylon wire attachment is recommended.

5.3 Duct and Vent Cleaning

The flexible rods and various attachments make the system suitable for cleaning dryer vents, ventilation ducts, and stovepipes. Ensure the chosen attachment is appropriate for the duct material and size to avoid damage.

6. Maintenance and Storage

  • After each use, clean all rods and attachments with a damp cloth to remove soot and debris.
  • Inspect rods and connectors for any signs of wear, cracks, or damage. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Store the entire system in the provided protection bag in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store heavy objects on top of the rods, as this may cause warping.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Difficulty Connecting Rods: Ensure connectors are clean and free of debris. Apply gentle pressure and align correctly. If still difficult, inspect for damage.
  • Rods Not Advancing: An obstruction may be present. Do not force. Retract the rods and investigate the flue or duct for blockages.
  • Ineffective Cleaning: Ensure the correct brush or attachment is being used for the type of debris and flue material. Increase rotational speed slightly if using a drill, or apply more manual effort.
  • Rods Disconnecting During Use: Verify that all snap-in connectors were fully engaged during assembly. Listen for the 'click' sound.
