Safety Instructions
Always adhere to local electrical codes and regulations. Installation and maintenance should only be performed by qualified personnel.
- Ensure the inverter is disconnected from all power sources (PV, battery, grid) before performing any work.
- Do not open the inverter casing unless explicitly instructed by GoodWe technical support.
- Avoid touching live electrical components.
- Ensure proper grounding of the inverter.
- Keep children and unauthorized personnel away from the installation area.
Installation and Setup
1. Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully unpack the inverter and Smart Meter. Inspect all components for any signs of damage during transit. Report any damage to your supplier immediately.
2. Mounting the Inverter
Choose a suitable mounting location that is:
- Well-ventilated and protected from direct sunlight.
- Away from flammable materials.
- Accessible for maintenance.
- Capable of supporting the inverter's weight (17 kg).
Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware to securely fasten the inverter to a solid wall or frame.
3. Electrical Connections
All electrical connections must comply with local wiring regulations and standards. Refer to the connection diagram below for guidance.

Figure 4: Rear view of the GoodWe 3648-EM Hybrid Inverter showing connection ports.
This image displays the rear panel of the GoodWe 3648-EM Hybrid Inverter, highlighting its various connection terminals. These include inputs for PV strings (PV1, PV2), battery connections, grid connection (ON-GRID), backup load connection (BACK-UP), and communication ports (RS485, Meter). A large heat sink is visible at the bottom.
- PV Connection: Connect the positive and negative cables from your solar array to the PV1 and PV2 inputs. Ensure correct polarity.
- Battery Connection: Connect the battery bank to the dedicated battery terminals. Observe correct polarity (+/-).
- Grid Connection: Connect the inverter to the main electrical grid.
- Backup Load Connection: For critical loads, connect them to the backup output.
- Smart Meter Connection: Connect the three-phase Smart Meter as per the wiring diagram provided in the full installation guide.
- Grounding: Ensure the inverter chassis is properly grounded.
4. Communication Setup (Wi-Fi)
The inverter features integrated Wi-Fi for monitoring and configuration. Follow these general steps:
- Power on the inverter.
- Connect your device (smartphone, laptop) to the inverter's Wi-Fi hotspot (SSID typically starts with "GoodWe_").
- Access the inverter's web interface via a browser (default IP address usually 192.168.1.1).
- Configure network settings to connect the inverter to your home Wi-Fi network.
- Register the inverter on the GoodWe monitoring platform (e.g., SEMS Portal) for remote monitoring.
Operating the Inverter
1. Initial Power-On
After all connections are secure and verified:
- Turn on the DC isolator switch for the PV array.
- Turn on the battery breaker.
- Turn on the AC breaker from the grid.
- The inverter will perform a self-test and then begin operation. Observe the LED indicators on the front panel for status.
2. Monitoring
Monitor the inverter's performance via the integrated web server or the GoodWe monitoring app/platform. Key parameters to observe include:
- PV power generation
- Battery charge/discharge status
- Grid interaction (export/import)
- Load consumption
- System status and error codes
3. Shutdown Procedure
To safely shut down the inverter:
- Turn off the AC breaker from the grid.
- Turn off the battery breaker.
- Turn off the DC isolator switch for the PV array.
- Wait for all indicators on the inverter to turn off.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your inverter.
- Monthly: Visually inspect the inverter and wiring for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Ensure ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris.
- Annually: Have a qualified technician perform a thorough inspection, including checking electrical connections, torque settings, and system performance. Clean the inverter's heat sink if necessary.
- Keep the area around the inverter clean and free from obstructions.
Troubleshooting
This section provides basic troubleshooting steps for common issues. For complex problems, contact GoodWe technical support or a certified installer.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Inverter not powering on | No DC input from PV or battery; AC grid disconnected; Emergency stop activated. | Check all breakers and isolators (PV, battery, AC grid). Ensure emergency stop button is disengaged. |
| Low power output | Shading on PV panels; Dirty PV panels; Inverter derating due to high temperature. | Check for shading. Clean PV panels. Ensure adequate ventilation around the inverter. |
| Communication error | Wi-Fi signal weak; Incorrect network settings; Router issue. | Check Wi-Fi signal strength. Reconfigure network settings. Restart router. |
| Error code displayed | Internal fault; Grid fault; PV overvoltage/undervoltage. | Note the error code and consult the full user manual or contact GoodWe support. Do not attempt repairs yourself. |
