Setup Guide
1. NVR Placement and Connection
- Place the NVR in a secure, dry location, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
- Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the NVR.
- Connect the NVR to your TV or monitor using the HDMI cable.
- Connect the NVR to your network router using one of the Ethernet cables.
- Connect the power adapter to the NVR and plug it into a power outlet. The NVR will power on automatically.
2. Camera Installation (PoE)
The cameras utilize Power-over-Ethernet (PoE), meaning a single Ethernet cable provides both power and video transmission.
- Identify suitable mounting locations for each of the eight dome cameras. Consider areas that provide optimal coverage and are vulnerable to intrusion.
- Mount each camera securely using the provided screws and plugs.
- Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to the camera's PoE port and the other end to an available PoE port on the NVR.
- Repeat for all eight cameras. The NVR will automatically detect and configure the cameras.
3. Initial Configuration
Follow the on-screen prompts on your connected monitor to complete the initial setup, including setting a password, time zone, and network settings. Refer to the NVR's on-screen guide for detailed steps.
Operating Instructions
1. Accessing Your System
You can access your security system via the NVR directly connected to a monitor, or remotely using the Swann Security app on your smartphone or tablet (Android/iOS).
2. Live View and Playback
- Live View: On the NVR or in the app, select the 'Live View' option to see real-time footage from all connected cameras.
- Playback: Use the 'Playback' function to review recorded footage. You can filter by date, time, and event type.
3. 4K Ultra HD Video Quality
The system provides 4K Ultra HD resolution, offering significantly greater detail than 1080P systems. This allows for clearer identification of objects, faces, and license plates.

Video 1: A comparison demonstrating the difference in video quality between 1080P and 4K security camera systems, highlighting the superior detail of 4K.
4. Color Night Vision and True Detect
- Color Night Vision: Cameras can display color video at night up to 32ft (10m) with sensor light.
- Black & White Night Vision: In total darkness, cameras provide black and white video up to 130ft (40m).
- True Detect: This technology uses heat and motion detection to minimize false alarms, ensuring you are only alerted to relevant activity.

Figure 5: Illustrates the difference between traditional black and white night vision and the system's full color night vision capability.

Figure 6: Depicts the Smart True Detect PIR Heat & Motion Detection system, showing how it triggers app push notifications, email alerts, and sirens upon detecting relevant activity.
5. Smart Video Analytics and SwannForce Technology
The system incorporates advanced video analytics for intelligent detection and deterrence:
- Face Recognition: Identifies and records faces.
- Person and Vehicle Detection: Distinguishes between human and vehicle movement, reducing irrelevant alerts.
- Line Crossing Detection: Triggers alerts when an object crosses a predefined virtual line.
- Object Left/Removed: Detects if an object is left behind or removed from a designated area.
- Perimeter Intrusion Detection: Alerts when an object enters or exits a specified zone.
- SwannForce Technology: Features red and blue flashing lights, sensor spotlights, and sirens on the cameras to actively deter intruders.
Video 2: An overview of the Swann 4K NVR Security System, demonstrating features like 4K clarity, smart analytics (face, vehicle, object detection), color night vision, 2-way audio, and SwannForce red and blue flashing lights for crime prevention.
6. 2-Way Audio
The cameras are equipped with microphones and speakers, enabling 2-way audio communication. You can listen to audio from the camera's location and speak through the camera using the Swann Security app.
7. Voice Assistant Integration
The system is compatible with Hey Google and Alexa, allowing you to use voice commands to view camera feeds on compatible smart displays.
Maintenance
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically clean camera lenses with a soft, damp cloth to ensure clear image quality.
- Firmware Updates: Check for and install NVR and camera firmware updates via the Swann Security app or NVR interface to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Hard Drive Management: The 2TB HDD provides ample storage. You can configure recording settings (continuous, motion-triggered) to manage storage space. The system supports external storage up to 6TB.
- Data Backup: Regularly back up important footage to a personal Dropbox account or other external storage.

Figure 7: Illustrates the NVR's built-in 2TB hard drive and the option to maximize capacity with up to 6TB of external storage.
Troubleshooting
- No Video Feed: Ensure all cables are securely connected, especially the Ethernet cables for PoE cameras. Check power supply to the NVR.
- Poor Image Quality: Clean camera lenses. Check for obstructions. Ensure cameras are within optimal range for night vision features.
- False Alarms: Adjust the sensitivity settings for True Detect motion detection in the NVR or app. Configure detection zones to exclude irrelevant areas.
- Remote Access Issues: Verify the NVR is connected to the internet. Check your network settings and ensure the Swann Security app is updated.
- NVR Not Recording: Check hard drive status in the NVR settings. Ensure recording schedules are correctly configured.
