1. Introduction

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Improper use of this instrument can cause damage, shock, injury, or death. Read and understand all safety information and operating instructions before use.

  • Always ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from any circuits before connecting or disconnecting test leads.
  • Do not use the tester if it appears damaged or is operating abnormally.
  • Observe all local and national safety codes.
  • Avoid touching the test leads or the circuit under test during high voltage measurements.
  • Ensure proper battery installation and replacement as specified.
  • The device indicates high voltage during testing; exercise extreme caution.

3.1 Package Contents

Verify that all items listed below are included in your package:

  • 1 x Insulation Resistance Tester (MH13)
  • 1 x Signal Shielding Wire

  • 1 x User Manual (English)

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The MH13 tester requires 8 x 1.5V AA batteries (not included). To install the batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the device.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the battery compartment cover.
  3. Insert 8 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover and secure it with the screw.

Note: The device features a low battery indication to remind you when to replace batteries.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

Connect the test leads to the appropriate input terminals on the tester. For most measurements, the red lead connects to the "LINE" terminal and the black lead to the "EARTH" terminal. For specific measurements like AC/DC voltage, refer to the relevant operating instructions.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Press and hold the POWER button for 2 seconds to turn the device on or off.

5.2 Insulation Resistance Measurement

This function is used to measure the insulation resistance of various electrical equipment and insulating materials.

  1. Ensure the circuit under test is de-energized and safely isolated.
  2. Connect the test leads to the two ends of the component or circuit you wish to test.
  3. Select the desired output voltage (250V, 500V, 1000V, 2000V, or 2500V) using the Up/Down arrow buttons.
  4. Press the TEST button to initiate the measurement. The red light on the TEST button will illuminate.
  5. The insulation resistance value will be displayed on the LCD.
  6. After the measurement, the device will automatically discharge the circuit. Do not touch the test leads until the discharge is complete.

Note: The device has a high voltage indication to alert users during testing.

5.3 AC/DC Voltage Measurement

The MH13 can also measure AC and DC voltages within the range of 10V to 600V.

  1. In the standby interface, short press the SELECT button to enter the AC voltage function. Press it again to switch to the DC voltage function.
  2. Adjust the gear to the ACV or DCV voltage gear for measurement.
  3. Insert the test lead plug into the appropriate terminals (AC and G for AC, DC and G for DC).
  4. The voltage reading will be displayed on the LCD.

5.4 Absorption Ratio (DAR) and Polarization Index (PI)

The MH13 supports the calculation of Absorption Ratio (DAR) and Polarization Index (PI), which are crucial for assessing the quality of insulation.

To perform DAR/PI tests:

  1. Set up for insulation resistance measurement as described in Section 5.2.
  2. Press the PI/DAR button to initiate the test. The device will automatically compute and display the DAR and PI values based on timed measurements.
  3. Refer to the judgment standards provided in the product documentation for interpreting the results.

5.5 Data Hold and Storage

The MH13 can store up to 100 sets of measured insulation resistance values.

  • Data Hold: During a measurement, single press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • Data Storage: After a measurement, press the MEM READ button to save the data.
  • View Stored Data: Press the MEM READ button to enter data browsing mode. Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to navigate through stored data groups.
  • Delete Stored Data: Refer to the full manual for instructions on deleting stored data, if applicable.

5.6 Signal Shielding for Measurement Accuracy

To minimize errors caused by "word jumping" phenomena in measurements, especially with sensitive insulation tests, utilize the signal shielding wire.

When a serious word jumping phenomenon occurs, insert the signal shielding wire's inner jack into the "G" (Guard) terminal. Connect the other end of the shielding wire to the cable shell or the inner insulation of the core to eliminate the error.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure no liquids enter the device.

6.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the tester in its provided storage bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting
