Setup and Placement

Proper placement and connection are crucial for optimal audio performance.

Speaker Placement:

The DM10 is a center channel speaker designed to reproduce dialogue and on-screen effects. For the best experience, place the speaker directly above or below your television or projection screen, centered horizontally with the screen. Ensure the front of the speaker is flush with the front edge of your entertainment center or cabinet to avoid sound reflections.

  • Height: Position the speaker as close to ear level as possible when seated.
  • Clearance: Ensure there are no obstructions directly in front of the speaker that could block sound.
  • Stability: Place the speaker on a stable, level surface to prevent vibrations.

Connecting Your Speaker:

The DM10 connects to the center channel output of your AV receiver or amplifier. Use high-quality speaker wire for the best performance.

  1. Turn off your AV receiver/amplifier and unplug it from the power outlet.
  2. Strip approximately 1/2 inch (12mm) of insulation from the ends of your speaker wire. Twist the bare wire strands tightly.
  3. Connect the positive (+) red terminal on the DM10 speaker to the positive (+) center channel terminal on your receiver.
  4. Connect the negative (-) black terminal on the DM10 speaker to the negative (-) center channel terminal on your receiver.
  5. Ensure all connections are secure and there are no stray wire strands that could cause a short circuit.

Note: Maintaining correct polarity (positive to positive, negative to negative) is essential for proper sound reproduction.

Operation

Once connected, the DM10 operates in conjunction with your AV receiver or amplifier.

Initial Power-Up:

  1. After making all connections, plug your AV receiver/amplifier back into the power outlet.
  2. Turn on your AV receiver/amplifier.
  3. Select the appropriate input source on your receiver.
  4. Start with the volume at a low level and gradually increase it to a comfortable listening level.

System Configuration:

Most AV receivers have an automatic speaker setup and calibration feature (e.g., Audyssey, MCACC, YPAO). It is highly recommended to run this calibration to optimize the DM10's performance within your specific room environment and with your other speakers.

  • Refer to your AV receiver's manual for detailed instructions on running its automatic calibration.
  • Ensure the DM10 is set as a "Small" speaker in your receiver's settings if you are using a subwoofer, allowing the subwoofer to handle lower frequencies.
  • Adjust the crossover frequency as recommended by your receiver's calibration or typically between 80Hz and 120Hz.

Maintenance and Care

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your DM10 speaker, follow these care guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Dust the speaker cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Grille: The acoustically transparent black cloth grille can be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment if needed. Do not remove the grille unless necessary, and handle it with care.
  • Environment: Avoid placing the speaker in direct sunlight or near heat sources. Keep it away from excessive moisture or humidity.
  • Handling: When moving the speaker, lift it carefully from the base. Avoid applying pressure to the drivers or grille.
