4. Setup

4.1 Speaker Placement

Optimal placement of the DM80 speakers is crucial for achieving the best sound performance. The DM80 features fully balanced bipolar arrays that can be adjusted to optimize for room placement.

  • Stereo Setup: Place the speakers equidistant from your primary listening position, forming an equilateral triangle.
  • Home Theater Setup: Position the DM80s as your front left and right channels. Ensure they are placed symmetrically relative to your display.
  • Near-Wall Placement: If placing the speakers close to a wall, utilize the rear-array attenuation switch located on the back panel to adjust the output and prevent excessive bass buildup.
  • Leveling: Use the included cabinet foot spikes or pads to level the speaker on any floor surface, ensuring stability and optimal acoustic coupling.

4.2 Connections

Before making any connections, ensure all audio equipment is turned off and unplugged from the power outlet.

  1. Speaker Wire Connection: Connect your amplifier's speaker outputs to the corresponding binding posts on the DM80. Ensure positive (+) terminals are connected to positive and negative (-) to negative for correct phase.
  2. Power Connection: Plug the included power cord into the AC inlet on the back of the speaker, then into a wall outlet. The integrated 12-inch powered subwoofer requires power.
  3. Optional DM90 Height Module: For Dolby Atmos/DTS:X overhead effects, the DM80 is compatible with the DM90 Height Module (sold separately). Refer to the DM90 manual for installation and connection instructions.

5. Operating Instructions

Once properly set up and connected, your DM80 speaker is ready for use.

  • Power On/Off: The speaker will typically power on automatically when an audio signal is detected. A power switch may also be present on the rear panel.
  • Intelligent Bass Control: The patented Intelligent Bass Control system blends the subwoofer output seamlessly with the midrange and high frequencies, providing deep bass performance without overpowering the overall sound.
  • Linear Response Waveguide: The patented Linear Response Waveguide extends off-axis dispersion, contributing to a wide and immersive soundstage.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the overall system volume using your amplifier or receiver. The integrated subwoofer's volume can often be fine-tuned via a control on the speaker's rear panel or through your receiver's settings.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Dust the speaker cabinet with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong detergents, as these can damage the finish.
  • Grille Care: The speaker grilles can be gently vacuumed with a soft brush attachment to remove dust.
  • Avoid Liquids: Do not spill liquids on the speaker. If liquid enters the cabinet, immediately disconnect power and contact qualified service personnel.
  • Environmental Conditions: Keep the speaker away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive humidity.
