3. Setup

Proper setup ensures safe and efficient operation of your pressure washer.

  1. Unpack and Assemble: Remove all components from the packaging. Attach the handle (if separate) and ensure all parts are securely fastened.
  2. Connect Water Supply:
    • Connect a standard garden hose (minimum 5/8 inch diameter) to the water inlet on the pressure washer. Ensure the connection is tight to prevent leaks.
    • Turn on the water supply completely to allow water to flow through the unit and expel any air.
  3. Attach High-Pressure Hose: Connect the high-pressure hose to the outlet on the pressure washer and to the spray gun. Hand-tighten securely.
  4. Attach Spray Wand and Nozzle:
    • Insert the spray wand into the spray gun and twist to lock it in place.
    • Select the desired Quick-Connect nozzle (0°, 15°, or 40°) and push it firmly into the quick-connect collar on the spray wand until it clicks into place.
  5. Fill Detergent Tank (Optional): If using detergent, fill the onboard foam cannon with appropriate pressure washer detergent. Do not use bleach or solvents.
  6. Connect Power: Plug the GFCI-protected power cord into a suitable grounded electrical outlet. Ensure the GFCI is reset before operation.

4. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for effective and safe operation of your Sun Joe pressure washer.

  1. Start-Up Procedure:
    • Ensure the water supply is fully open.
    • Squeeze the trigger on the spray gun to release any air trapped in the pump and hose. Hold the trigger until a steady stream of water emerges.
    • Turn the pressure washer's power switch to the "ON" position. The motor will start.
  2. Using Nozzles:
    • 0° (Red) Nozzle: Provides a pinpoint stream for intense cleaning of small, tough spots. Use with extreme caution as it can damage surfaces.
    • 15° (Yellow) Nozzle: Delivers a narrow, powerful spray for concentrated cleaning of hard surfaces like concrete or brick.
    • 40° (White) Nozzle: Offers a wide, gentle spray for general cleaning of delicate surfaces, vehicles, or large areas.
    • To change nozzles, turn off the pressure washer and release any residual pressure by squeezing the trigger. Pull back the quick-connect collar, remove the current nozzle, and insert the new one.
  3. Using the Foam Cannon:
    • Ensure the foam cannon is filled with appropriate pressure washer detergent.
    • Attach the foam cannon to the spray gun.
    • The pressure washer will automatically draw detergent when the foam cannon is attached and the unit is operating.
  4. Total Stop System (TSS): The TSS feature automatically shuts off the pump when the trigger is not engaged. This conserves energy and prolongs the life of the pump. The motor will restart when the trigger is squeezed again.
  5. Shut-Down Procedure:
    • Turn the pressure washer's power switch to the "OFF" position.
    • Turn off the water supply.
    • Squeeze the trigger on the spray gun to release any remaining pressure in the system.
    • Disconnect the garden hose and high-pressure hose.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your pressure washer.

  • Nozzle Cleaning: If a nozzle becomes clogged, use the included nozzle cleaning tool (or a paper clip) to clear any debris from the nozzle opening. Rinse the nozzle with water.
  • Water Inlet Filter: Periodically check and clean the water inlet filter to prevent debris from entering the pump. Remove the filter, rinse it under running water, and reinsert.
  • Storage:
    • Before storing, drain all water from the pump, hose, and spray gun to prevent freezing damage. Run the unit for a few seconds without water to clear the pump.
    • Store the pressure washer in a dry, frost-free area.
    • Coil the high-pressure hose and power cord neatly.
  • Detergent Tank: After each use with detergent, rinse the foam cannon thoroughly with clean water to prevent residue buildup.
