Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your XPOtool Petrol Water Pump. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the pump to ensure proper use and to prevent injury or damage.
The XPOtool petrol water pump is designed for easily pumping larger quantities of water, suitable for irrigation of grassed areas, draining garden ponds, de-watering of inundated cellars, and other floodings. Its petrol-operated design allows for use in areas without mains supply.

Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent personal injury or damage to the pump:
- Fuel Handling: Petrol is highly flammable. Always refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Avoid spilling fuel.
- Ventilation: Operate the pump in a well-ventilated area to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Never operate indoors.
- Hot Surfaces: The engine and exhaust become very hot during operation. Avoid contact to prevent burns.
- Electrical Safety: Do not operate the pump in wet conditions or near standing water unless specifically designed for such use and proper precautions are taken.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate PPE, such as gloves and eye protection, when handling fuel or operating the pump.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the operating area.
- First Use: It is essential to fill in oil before using the engine for the first time! The delivery does NOT include operating materials (oil and petrol).
Setup and Assembly
Before first use, ensure all components are present and properly assembled.
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the pump and all accessories from the packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
- Base Stability: Ensure the pump is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping during operation. The stable foot design aids in this.
- Hose Connections: Connect the suction and discharge hoses to the 38.1-mm (1.5-inch) hose connections. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks and maintain suction.
- Fuel and Oil Filling:
- Oil: Fill the engine with the recommended 2-stroke engine oil. Refer to the engine's specific oil capacity and type. Do not operate without oil.
- Fuel: Fill the 1.2-litre petrol tank with unleaded petrol. Do not overfill. Secure the fuel cap tightly.

Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your water pump.
- Priming the Pump: Before starting, remove the priming plug (usually located on top of the pump housing) and fill the pump casing with clean water until it overflows. Replace the plug securely. This is crucial for the pump to create suction.
- Engine Start:
- Ensure the fuel valve is open.
- Set the choke lever to the "START" or "CHOKE" position (cold engine).
- Move the throttle lever to the "FAST" position.
- Pull the starter rope firmly and smoothly until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position as the engine warms up.

Figure 3: Side view of the pump. This image shows the pull start handle and the fuel cap, indicating the engine's starting components.
- Operation: The pump will begin to draw water once the engine is running and primed. Monitor the flow rate and ensure the suction hose remains submerged. The pump has a max. suction height of 8 metres and a max. lifting height of 35 metres, with a flow rate of 15,000 litres per hour.
- Stopping the Engine: To stop the pump, move the throttle lever to the "SLOW" or "IDLE" position, then turn the engine switch to "OFF". Close the fuel valve for storage.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your XPOtool water pump.
- After Each Use:
- Drain any remaining water from the pump casing to prevent freezing in cold weather and to avoid sediment buildup.
- Clean the exterior of the pump.
- Engine Oil Check: Regularly check the engine oil level and top up as needed. Change the oil according to the engine manufacturer's recommendations.
- Air Filter: Inspect and clean the air filter regularly. A dirty air filter can reduce engine performance.
- Spark Plug: Check the spark plug periodically for wear and proper gap. Replace if necessary.
- Fuel Filter/Pre-filter: The pump includes a pre-filter for extracting water from various sources. Clean this filter as needed to ensure unrestricted water flow.
- Long-Term Storage:
- Drain the fuel tank and carburetor to prevent fuel degradation.
- Store the pump in a clean, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your water pump.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine does not start | No fuel; Fuel valve closed; Choke incorrect; Spark plug faulty; No oil (first use) | Fill fuel tank; Open fuel valve; Adjust choke; Check/replace spark plug; Fill oil before first use |
| Pump does not prime/no water flow | Pump not primed; Air leak in suction hose/connections; Suction hose blocked; Suction height too high | Fill pump casing with water; Check all hose connections for tightness; Clear blockage; Ensure suction height is within 8m limit |
| Reduced water flow | Clogged pre-filter; Partially blocked hose; Engine running at low RPM | Clean pre-filter; Check and clear hoses; Increase engine speed with throttle |
| Excessive vibration/noise | Loose components; Pump not on level surface; Internal damage | Check and tighten all bolts; Place pump on stable, level ground; Contact service if persists |
