4. Operating the Scanner
4.1 Basic Scanning
Once paired, the SocketScan S720 functions as a keyboard wedge, meaning scanned data will appear wherever your cursor is active, just like typing.
- Open an application where you want the scanned data to appear (e.g., a text editor, spreadsheet, or inventory management software).
- Position the scanner's laser or imager over the barcode you wish to scan.
- Press and hold the scan button. A red aiming line or illumination will appear.
- Ensure the aiming line crosses the entire barcode.
- Release the scan button once the barcode is successfully read. A beep or vibration will confirm a successful scan, and the data will appear on your host device.
4.2 Indicator Lights
The S720 features indicator lights to provide status information:
- Battery Indicator: Shows battery charge level (e.g., solid green for full, flashing red for low).
- Bluetooth Indicator: Indicates connection status (e.g., flashing for pairing mode, solid for connected).
- Scan Status Indicator: Confirms successful scans.
