4. Assembly Instructions
Your Nexgrill 29" Charcoal Grill requires assembly. Please refer to the separate detailed assembly guide included in the product packaging for step-by-step instructions and a complete list of parts and hardware. Ensure all parts are present and undamaged before beginning assembly. It is recommended to have two people for assembly.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Before First Use
Before cooking on your grill for the first time, it is recommended to season the cooking grates. Light a small amount of charcoal and allow it to burn for about 30 minutes with the lid closed. This process helps to burn off any manufacturing residues and prepares the grates for cooking.
5.2 Charcoal Loading and Lighting
- Open the grill lid and remove the cooking grates and warming rack.
- Place charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal onto the charcoal tray. Arrange them in a pyramid shape for easier lighting.
- Use a charcoal chimney starter or an approved charcoal lighter fluid to ignite the charcoal. Follow the instructions on your lighter fluid or chimney starter.
- Allow the charcoal to burn until it is covered with a light gray ash (approximately 15-20 minutes).
- Carefully spread the hot charcoal evenly across the charcoal tray using long-handled tongs.
- Replace the cooking grates and warming rack.
5.3 Temperature Control
Your Nexgrill charcoal grill offers multiple ways to control cooking temperature:
- Adjustable Charcoal Tray: The charcoal tray can be raised or lowered to three different height settings. Raising the tray brings the charcoal closer to the cooking grates for higher, more direct heat (ideal for searing). Lowering the tray moves the charcoal further away for lower, indirect heat (ideal for slow cooking or smoking).

Figure 5.1: The adjustable charcoal tray allows for precise heat control by changing the distance between the charcoal and the cooking surface.
- Chimney Air Vent: The chimney vent on the lid allows you to regulate airflow. Opening the vent increases airflow, leading to hotter temperatures. Closing it restricts airflow, lowering the temperature. Use in conjunction with the adjustable ventilation on the firebox.

Figure 5.2: The built-in chimney provides an additional layer of smoke and temperature control.
- Adjustable Ventilation: Located on the side of the firebox, these vents also control airflow to the charcoal. Open for more heat, close for less.

Figure 5.3: Adjustable ventilation slots on the firebox allow for fine-tuning of temperature by controlling oxygen flow to the charcoal.
- Integrated Temperature Gauge: Monitor the internal temperature of your grill using the gauge on the lid to ensure optimal cooking conditions.
5.4 Grilling
Once the grill reaches your desired temperature, place food on the cooking grates. The 552 square inches of cooking space provides ample room for various items. The porcelain-coated cast iron grates ensure even heat distribution and create excellent sear marks.

Figure 5.4: The spacious 552 sq. in. cooking area accommodates a variety of foods, from ribs to chicken.

Figure 5.5: The grill features durable porcelain-coated cast iron cooking grids for superior heat retention and non-stick performance.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your grill and ensure optimal performance.
- Ash Disposal: After each use, once the grill has completely cooled, remove the removable ash catcher and dispose of the ash safely.
- Cooking Grates: Clean cooking grates after each use with a grill brush while they are still warm (but not hot). For deeper cleaning, remove and wash with warm, soapy water.
- Exterior: Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
- Storage: Store the grill in a dry, covered area when not in use. If storing outdoors, use a grill cover to protect it from the elements.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your charcoal grill.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Charcoal not lighting easily | Insufficient lighter fluid; charcoal too dense; poor airflow. | Ensure charcoal is properly doused; use a chimney starter; open all vents fully during lighting. |
| Temperature too low | Not enough charcoal; vents closed; charcoal tray too low. | Add more charcoal; open vents; raise charcoal tray. |
| Temperature too high | Too much charcoal; vents too open; charcoal tray too high. | Reduce charcoal amount; close vents partially; lower charcoal tray. |
| Food sticking to grates | Grates not seasoned; grates not clean; not enough oil on food/grates. | Season grates before use; clean grates thoroughly; lightly oil food or grates before cooking. |
