2. Setup and Installation
Follow these guidelines for proper installation of your motherboard and its components. Always ensure your system is powered off and unplugged before handling internal components.
2.1. CPU Installation
The motherboard supports Intel LGA 1700 socket processors. Carefully align the CPU with the socket, ensuring the triangular markers match. Lower the CPU gently into the socket without forcing it. Close the load plate and secure the retention lever.
2.2. RAM (DDR5) Installation
This motherboard features four DDR5 DIMM slots. For optimal performance, refer to your motherboard manual for recommended dual-channel configurations. Align the RAM module's notch with the slot's key and press firmly on both ends until the clips lock into place.
2.3. M.2 SSD Installation
The ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming WiFi motherboard includes four M.2 slots, all supporting PCIe 4.0 SSDs. The primary M.2 slot features a heatsink and backplate for enhanced thermal management. To install an M.2 SSD, remove the heatsink, insert the SSD into the slot at an angle, and then gently push it down. Secure it with the provided M.2 Q-Latch mechanism or screw, then reattach the heatsink.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1. BIOS Configuration
Access the UEFI BIOS by pressing the 'Del' or 'F2' key during system startup. Here you can configure system settings, enable XMP profiles for memory optimization, and manage boot options. The motherboard also features a BIOS Flashback button for updating the BIOS without a CPU or RAM, and a Clear CMOS button for resetting BIOS settings.
3.2. Software and Drivers
Install the latest drivers from the ASUS support website for optimal performance and stability. Utilize the ASUS Armoury Crate software for managing Aura Sync RGB lighting, monitoring system thermals, and updating utilities.
3.3. Network Connectivity
The motherboard supports WiFi 6E for high-speed wireless networking. Ensure the included WiFi antenna is properly connected to the rear I/O panel for optimal signal strength. A 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port is also available for wired network connections.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your motherboard.
- Dust Removal: Periodically clean dust from the motherboard and heatsinks using compressed air. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
- Driver Updates: Keep your motherboard drivers and BIOS updated to the latest versions available on the ASUS support website.
- Cable Management: Ensure internal cables are neatly routed to prevent obstruction of airflow and potential damage.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Boot/Display: Verify all power connections (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU), ensure RAM modules are correctly seated, and check that the graphics card is properly installed and powered. Try clearing the CMOS.
- XMP Profile Instability: If experiencing instability after enabling XMP, try manually adjusting memory timings or voltage in the BIOS, or revert to default settings.
- Network Connectivity Issues: Ensure the WiFi antenna is securely attached. For wired connections, check the Ethernet cable and router. Install or update network drivers from the ASUS support site.
- USB Port Issues: Ensure USB devices are connected to appropriate ports. Some USB ports may require specific drivers or BIOS settings.
