Planex MZK-DP300N Portable Wi-Fi Router User Manual

Model: MZK-DP300N

Introduction

The Planex MZK-DP300N, also known as ChibiFi 4, is a compact and portable Wi-Fi router designed for convenient internet access in various locations such as hotels, hospitals, and cafes. This device converts a wired LAN connection into a wireless Wi-Fi network, allowing multiple devices to connect simultaneously without the need for individual Wi-Fi configuration at each new location.

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your MZK-DP300N router. Please read it carefully before use to ensure optimal performance and safety.

Product Features

  • Easy Wi-Fi Setup: Simply plug the router into an electrical outlet and connect it to an available wired or wireless LAN to create a personal Wi-Fi environment.
  • Multi-Device Connectivity: Connect multiple devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, and portable gaming consoles simultaneously to the internet.
  • Data Usage Efficiency: By converting wired LAN to wireless, the router allows direct internet access, eliminating concerns about mobile data packet usage.
  • Quick Configuration: Once device IDs are registered, setting up the wireless LAN is a simple two-step process: plug into an outlet and connect the LAN cable.
  • Ultra-Compact Design: Measuring approximately 30(W) x 45(H) x 55(D) mm, its small size makes it highly portable and easy to carry in a bag's side pocket.
  • Adjustable Signal Strength: Features a radio wave strength adjustment function with five levels (100%, 70%, 50%, 30%, 15%) to reduce signal leakage and minimize interference with other Wi-Fi networks in shared environments.

Setup Instructions

1. Initial Connection

Before configuring your router, ensure it is properly connected to a power source and the internet.

  1. Plug into an Outlet: Insert the MZK-DP300N router directly into a power outlet.
  2. Connect to LAN (if available): If a wired LAN connection is available (e.g., in a hotel room), connect a LAN cable from the wall port to the LAN port on the router.

2. Connecting Devices to Wi-Fi

Once the router is powered on and connected to the internet source, you can connect your wireless devices.

  1. Find the Wi-Fi Network: On your device (smartphone, laptop, tablet), search for available Wi-Fi networks. The network name (SSID) and password for your MZK-DP300N are typically found on a label on the device itself or in the included documentation.
  2. Connect: Select the MZK-DP300N's SSID and enter the password when prompted.
  3. Automatic Reconnection: After the initial connection, your devices will automatically connect to the MZK-DP300N whenever it is powered on and within range, even in different locations.

Operating Instructions

Accessing Router Settings (Web Interface)

To manage advanced settings such as Wi-Fi name, password, or signal strength, access the router's web interface.

  1. Connect to the Router: Ensure your device is connected to the MZK-DP300N's Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open a Web Browser: Launch a web browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari) on your connected device.
  3. Enter IP Address: Type the router's default IP address (usually found on the device label or in the manual) into the browser's address bar and press Enter. Common default IP addresses are 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1.
  4. Log In: Enter the administrator username and password. Default credentials are also typically found on the device label or in the manual.

Adjusting Signal Strength

The MZK-DP300N features an adjustable radio wave strength function. This can be useful in shared environments to minimize interference with other networks.

  1. Access the web interface as described above.
  2. Navigate to the Wi-Fi settings or advanced settings section.
  3. Select your desired signal strength from the available options: 100%, 70%, 50%, 30%, or 15%.
  4. Save the changes. The router may restart to apply the new setting.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the router. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Firmware Updates: Periodically check the Planex website for firmware updates. Keeping your router's firmware up-to-date ensures optimal performance, security, and compatibility. Firmware updates can typically be performed via the router's web interface.
  • Reset Button: The router has a reset button. Pressing and holding this button for several seconds (refer to specific instructions in the full manual if available) will restore the router to its factory default settings. Use this only if necessary, as all custom configurations will be lost.

Troubleshooting

No Internet Connection

  • Check Physical Connections: Ensure the router is securely plugged into a power outlet. If using a wired LAN, verify the LAN cable is firmly connected to both the wall port and the router's LAN port.
  • Verify Internet Source: Confirm that the wired LAN connection (e.g., hotel internet) is active and working independently. Try connecting a laptop directly to the wall LAN port if possible.
  • Restart Router: Unplug the router from the power outlet, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Check Router Settings: Access the web interface to ensure internet settings (WAN settings) are configured for automatic IP address acquisition (DHCP client).

Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi Network

  • Check Wi-Fi Password: Ensure you are entering the correct Wi-Fi password (WPA2-PSK key). Passwords are case-sensitive.
  • Router Range: Make sure your device is within the Wi-Fi range of the router.
  • Restart Device: Restart the device you are trying to connect (smartphone, laptop).
  • Reset Router: As a last resort, perform a factory reset using the reset button. Note that this will erase all custom settings.
