Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the stability and functionality of your lamp post. Follow these steps carefully.

1. Prepare the Foundation

The lamp post requires a stable concrete foundation for secure mounting. The video below demonstrates the process of preparing a concrete base for a lamp post.

Video: How to Install a Lamp Post into Freshly Poured Concrete. This video provides a detailed guide on creating a concrete foundation and setting anchor bolts for a lamp post.

  1. Dig the Hole: Dig a hole appropriate for your concrete foundation. Ensure it's deep enough to provide stability.
  2. Install Conduit: If running electrical wires underground, install appropriate conduit (e.g., PVC pipe) to protect the wiring. Tape the top of the conduit to prevent concrete from entering.
  3. Set Sonotube (Optional): For a clean, cylindrical concrete base, use a Sonotube (cardboard concrete form). Place it in the hole around the conduit.
  4. Prepare Anchor Bolts: Attach the provided nuts and washers to the anchor bolts. Use the metal template to ensure correct spacing and height (approximately 1.5 inches of thread above the template).
  5. Pour Concrete: Mix and pour concrete into the hole/Sonotube. Use a standard post-mix concrete.
  6. Set Template and Bolts: While the concrete is wet, carefully insert the anchor bolts through the template and into the concrete, ensuring they are plumb and level with the concrete surface. Allow the concrete to cure completely (typically 24-48 hours).

2. Assemble the Lamp Post

The lamp post typically comes in sections. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for assembling the pole and attaching the light heads. Ensure all connections are secure.

3. Electrical Connection

  1. Prepare Wires: Carefully strip about 3-4 inches of the outer jacket from the supply line wire. Then, strip about 1/2 to 3/4 inch of insulation from the black (hot), white (neutral), and bare copper (ground) wires.
  2. Connect Wires: Connect the corresponding wires from the lamp post to your supply line using wire nuts. Ensure black connects to black, white to white, and bare copper (ground) to bare copper (ground).
  3. Secure Connections: Give each wire nut a gentle tug to ensure a secure connection. Tuck all wires neatly into the base of the lamp post.

4. Mount the Lamp Post

  1. Align Base: Carefully lift the assembled lamp post and align the mounting holes in its base with the anchor bolts protruding from the concrete foundation.
  2. Lower onto Bolts: Slowly lower the lamp post onto the anchor bolts, ensuring no wires are pinched.
  3. Secure with Nuts: Place a washer and a regular nut onto each anchor bolt. Tighten these nuts securely using an open-end wrench.
  4. Install Dome Nuts: For a finished look and added protection, install the provided dome nuts over the regular nuts. These do not need to be overtightened.

Operating Instructions

1. Powering On

Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, restore power to the circuit at the breaker. The lamp post is now ready for use.

2. Using the GFCI Outlet

The integrated GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) outlet provides convenient outdoor power with enhanced safety features. It protects against electrical shocks by quickly shutting off power if a ground fault is detected.

  • Reset Button: If the outlet loses power, press the 'RESET' button to restore functionality.
  • Test Button: Periodically (e.g., monthly) press the 'TEST' button to ensure the GFCI is working correctly. The 'RESET' button should pop out, indicating the circuit has tripped. Press 'RESET' again to restore power.
  • Load Capacity: The GFCI outlet supports a maximum load of 1875W (15AWG Input Wire). Do not overload the outlet.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help prolong the life and appearance of your lamp post.

  • Cleaning: Clean the lamp post and glass panels periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the finish or glass.
  • Weather Resistance: The lamp post is crafted from anti-rust die-cast aluminum and solid clear glass, with an IP65 waterproof rating. It is designed to withstand rain, snow, wind, and frost. However, inspect for any signs of wear or damage after severe weather conditions.
  • Bulb Replacement: Ensure power is disconnected before replacing bulbs. Allow bulbs to cool completely before handling.
