3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Choosing a Location

Select a location that receives direct sunlight for at least 6-8 hours daily to ensure optimal charging of the solar panel. Avoid areas under eaves, trees, or other obstructions that might block sunlight or cast shadows on the solar panel.

3.2 Mounting the Lamp

The lamp can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. Use the provided mounting hardware to securely attach the lamp to a solid surface.

  1. Mark the drilling points on the desired mounting surface using the lamp's base as a template.
  2. Drill holes at the marked points.
  3. Insert wall plugs (if necessary for your surface type).
  4. Align the lamp's base with the holes and secure it with screws.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Initial Activation

Before first use, ensure the lamp is fully charged by placing it in direct sunlight for at least 8-10 hours. The lamp has an internal Lithium-ion battery.

4.2 Using the Remote Control

The remote control allows you to select between three independent lighting modes and manually turn the lamp on or off.

  • ON/OFF Button: Manually turns the lamp on or off.
  • MODE 1: Light turns on at 100% brightness when motion is detected, then turns off after 20-30 seconds of no motion.
  • MODE 2: Light stays on at 30% brightness from dusk to dawn, and switches to 100% brightness when motion is detected, returning to 30% after 20-30 seconds of no motion.
  • MODE 3: Light stays on at 50% brightness from dusk to dawn, without motion detection.

4.3 Sensor Operation

The integrated dusk sensor automatically activates the lamp at night and deactivates it during the day. The PIR motion sensor detects movement within its 120-degree detection angle, triggering full brightness in certain modes.

5. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your Maclean MCE447 Solar Street Light, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Clean Solar Panel: Regularly wipe the solar panel with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, leaves, or snow. A clean panel ensures efficient charging.
  • Clean Light Heads: Periodically clean the LED light covers to maintain maximum light output.
  • Inspect for Damage: Check the lamp and mounting hardware for any signs of wear, corrosion, or damage. Address any issues promptly.
  • Battery Care: While the battery is integrated, ensure the lamp receives sufficient sunlight to prevent deep discharge, which can reduce battery lifespan.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your solar street light, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Lamp not turning on at night:
    • Ensure the lamp is switched ON via the remote control or the manual switch.
    • Verify the solar panel is clean and receiving direct sunlight for adequate charging.
    • Check if the lamp is installed in a location with too much ambient light at night, which might prevent the dusk sensor from activating.
    • Allow the lamp to charge for a full day (8-10 hours) in direct sunlight.
  • Motion sensor not detecting:
    • Ensure the lamp is in a mode that utilizes the motion sensor (MODE 1 or MODE 2).
    • Check for obstructions blocking the sensor's field of view.
    • Verify the distance and speed of movement are within the sensor's specifications (0.6 to 1.5 m/s detection speed).
  • Reduced light duration:
    • Insufficient charging due to cloudy weather, dirty solar panel, or poor placement.
    • Battery degradation over time (typical for rechargeable batteries).
