Setup and Installation
The GRIFEMA Key Safe GA1003-1 is designed for secure wall mounting. Choose a location that is discreet, easily accessible to authorized users, and provides a solid surface for installation.
- Select Location: Identify a suitable mounting surface such as a brick wall, concrete, or a sturdy wooden stud. Avoid mounting on hollow or unstable surfaces.
- Mark Drilling Points: Hold the key safe against the chosen mounting surface. Using a pencil, mark the four drilling points through the pre-drilled holes located on the back of the unit.
- Drill Holes: Using an appropriate drill bit (e.g., 6mm masonry drill bit for brick/concrete), drill holes at the marked points. Ensure the depth is sufficient to fully accommodate the provided wall plugs and screws.
- Insert Wall Plugs: Gently tap the provided wall plugs into the drilled holes until they are flush with the wall surface.
- Mount Key Safe: Align the key safe with the inserted wall plugs. Insert the mounting screws through the key safe's holes and into the wall plugs. Tighten the screws securely with a screwdriver, but do not overtighten to avoid damaging the wall or the unit.

Operating Instructions: Setting the Combination
The GRIFEMA Key Safe GA1003-1 is factory-set with a default combination of 0000. Follow these steps to set your personalized 4-digit combination:
- Open the Safe: Dial the original code (0000) or your current combination to open the key lock box.
- Locate Reset Lever: With the safe door open, look on the inside of the door mechanism. You will find a small lever, typically labeled 'RESET' or with an arrow, that can be moved between positions 'A' and 'B'.
- Move Reset Lever: Push the RESET lever from position 'A' to position 'B'. Ensure it clicks firmly into place.
- Set New Combination: While the lever is in position 'B', rotate the four combination dials to your desired new 4-digit code. Choose a combination that is easy for you to remember but difficult for others to guess.
- Return Reset Lever: Push the RESET lever back from position 'B' to position 'A'. This action locks in your new combination.
- Test New Combination: Close the key safe door and scramble the dials. Then, dial your new combination and attempt to open the safe to verify it works correctly. If it does not open, repeat the steps carefully.
Important: Make sure to remember your new combination. There is no master key or override function if the combination is forgotten. It is recommended to write down your combination and store it in a secure, separate location.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your GRIFEMA Key Safe:
- Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the key safe with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
- Lubrication: Periodically, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the combination dials and the hinge mechanism. This will help maintain smooth operation and prevent stiffness, especially in outdoor environments.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the mounting screws and the safe's housing for any signs of wear, damage, or loosening. Tighten mounting screws if necessary to ensure the safe remains securely attached to the wall.
- Weather Protection: Although the unit is weatherproof, always ensure the slide cover is properly closed after each use. This protects the combination dials from direct exposure to rain, snow, and excessive dust, prolonging their lifespan.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Safe will not open with combination. | Incorrect combination entered. Dials not aligned correctly. Reset lever not fully returned to 'A' after setting. | Double-check the combination and ensure each digit is precisely aligned with the indicator mark. Re-enter the combination carefully. If recently changed, ensure the reset lever was fully moved back to position 'A' during the setting process. |
| Dials are stiff or hard to turn. | Accumulation of dirt or debris. Lack of lubrication. | Clean the dials and surrounding area with a soft brush or cloth. Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the dials and rotate them to distribute it. |
| Safe door does not close properly. | Obstruction inside the safe. Misalignment of the door or hinge. | Ensure no items are blocking the closing mechanism or protruding from the safe. Check for any physical damage or bending of the door or frame that might prevent proper closure. |
