2. Safety Information

Adherence to the following safety guidelines is crucial for preventing injury and damage to the unit. Always consult with a qualified electrician for wiring and installation.

  • Professional Installation Recommended: The pool heater does not come with a standard plug and requires hardwiring or specialized connectors. Due to the high voltage and current levels, it is strongly recommended to have a professional electrician perform the wiring to ensure safety and proper functionality.
  • Dry Burning Prevention: The heater is equipped with a pressure switch to prevent dry burning. If the water pressure drops to 15kPa (approximately 0.15 bar) or less during operation, the pressure switch will automatically shut off the power to protect the unit. Ensure adequate water flow at all times.
  • High Temperature Protection: A high-temperature protection switch is integrated. If the water temperature reaches 50°C (122°F) due to insufficient water flow or a blockage in the inlet, the heater will trip (cut off power) to prevent overheating and potential damage.
  • Indoor Use Only: This product is designed for indoor use with hot tubs, whirlpool bathtubs, and small pools. It is not intended for large outdoor swimming pools.
  • Water Capacity: The heater is suitable for pools around 500 gallons. For optimal heating performance, the capacity should ideally not exceed 400 US gallons.

3. Product Overview

The Mxmoonant Pool Heater is designed for efficient water temperature maintenance. Key components include:

  • Temperature Control Knob: Allows manual adjustment of the desired water temperature.
  • Reset Button: For resetting the unit after a safety trip.
  • Heating Indicator: Illuminates when the heater is actively heating the water.
  • PVC Connectors/Unions: For connecting the heater to your plumbing system. The unit comes with two different PVC pipe connectors (inner diameter 48mm/1.88" and 50mm/2").
  • Power Cord: For electrical connection (requires hardwiring).

4. Setup

4.1 Plumbing Installation

Proper plumbing is essential for the heater's performance and safety. Ensure the correct water flow direction as indicated by the arrow on the heater unit.

  • Connect the heater inline with your pool or hot tub's circulation system.
  • The heater is compatible with 1.5-inch PVC plumbing. It is recommended to use SCH 40 1.5-inch PVC pipe for plumbing connections.
  • Ensure your circulation pump has sufficient power, ideally 0.5 HP or greater, to ensure adequate water flow. Smaller power pumps (e.g., 45 or 60 watts filter pumps) may cause insufficient water flow rate, leading to operational issues.

4.2 Electrical Wiring

The Mxmoonant Pool Heater is designed for hardwired installation. It requires a 220-240V power supply. Always consult a qualified electrician for safe and correct wiring.

  • Voltage: 220-240V
  • Power: 3000W (3KW)
  • Rated Current: 13.6A
  • Breaker Size: 20A
  • Wire Gauge: 12 AWG (American Wire Gauge)
  • Connect the live wires (live wire 1, live wire 2) and the ground wire according to the provided diagram and local electrical codes.

5. Operating Instructions

The heater features a simple temperature control knob for ease of use.

  • Setting Temperature: Turn the knob clockwise to adjust the desired water temperature. The maximum setting is 40°C (104°F). It is recommended to set the temperature to 40°C before switching on the heater for initial use.
  • Automatic Operation: The heater will automatically turn on when the water temperature falls below the preset temperature and will automatically stop when the preset temperature is reached.
  • Heating Indicator: The red heating indicator light will illuminate when the thermostat is actively running and heating the water.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your pool heater.

  • Ensure Consistent Water Flow: Always ensure that the circulation pump is operating and providing adequate water flow through the heater. Lack of water flow can lead to dry burning and trigger safety shutdowns.
  • Check for Blockages: Periodically inspect the plumbing for any blockages that might restrict water flow to or from the heater. Clear any debris or obstructions promptly.
  • Initial Water Temperature: For better heating performance, it is advisable to fill your hot tub or pool with warm water rather than cold water, especially during initial setup or refilling.
  • Use a Hot Tub Cover: To maintain temperature and improve heating efficiency, always use a hot tub or pool cover when the unit is not in use. This prevents heat loss due to ambient temperature.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the exterior of the heater clean and free from dust and debris. Do not use harsh chemicals for cleaning.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Mxmoonant Pool Heater, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Heater not turning on / No heat
  • Insufficient water flow (pressure switch activated)
  • High temperature protection activated (overheating)
  • Incorrect wiring or power supply issue
  • Temperature knob set too low
  • Ensure circulation pump is running and water flow is adequate (above 15kPa). Check for blockages.
  • Check for blockages in the inlet/outlet. Allow unit to cool down and reset if necessary.
  • Verify electrical connections with a qualified electrician. Check breaker.
  • Adjust temperature knob to desired setting (e.g., 40°C).
Heater trips frequently
  • Low water pressure
  • Overheating due to restricted flow
  • Electrical overload
  • Check pump operation and water levels.
  • Inspect plumbing for blockages. Ensure proper circulation.
  • Consult an electrician to verify wiring and breaker size.
Water not reaching desired temperature
  • Pool/tub volume too large for heater capacity
  • Insufficient insulation/heat loss
  • Ambient temperature too low
  • Ensure pool/tub size is within recommended 500 gallons (ideally < 400 gallons for best performance).
  • Use a hot tub/pool cover to minimize heat loss.
  • Consider initial fill with warm water in colder conditions.
