3. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to set up your power supply.

3.1. Input Voltage Selection

WARNING: This is a critical step. Failure to select the correct voltage will damage the power supply and may pose a safety risk.

  1. Locate the red toggle switch on the side of the power supply, usually near the input terminals. This switch is labeled for 110V and 220V.
  2. The default setting is 220V. If your local mains voltage is 110V-120V, use a small screwdriver to carefully slide the switch to the 110V position. If your local mains voltage is 220V-240V, ensure the switch remains in the 220V position.

Use a small screwdriver to adjust the red toggle switch to match your local AC input voltage (110V or 220V).

3.2. Wiring Instructions

Ensure the power supply is NOT connected to the AC mains during wiring.

  1. AC Input Connection: Connect your 3-prong AC power cord to the input terminals.
    • Connect the Live (L) wire to the 'L' terminal.
    • Connect the Neutral (N) wire to the 'N' terminal.
    • Connect the Ground (⏚) wire to the ground terminal.
  2. DC Output Connection: Connect your 5V DC device(s) to the output terminals.
    • Connect the positive (+) wire of your device to the '+V' terminal.
    • Connect the negative (-) wire of your device to the '-V' terminal.
  3. Ensure all screw terminals are tightened securely to prevent loose connections and potential hazards.

Figure 3.3: Wiring Example with Controller
This image demonstrates how to connect the AC input, and the DC output to an LED controller and LED strip. Note the indicator light for power status.

3.3. Output Voltage Adjustment

The output voltage can be fine-tuned by ±10% (from 4.5V to 5.5V) using the 'ADJ' knob located near the DC output terminals. Use a small screwdriver to carefully turn this knob to achieve the desired output voltage for your application.

3.4. Mounting

The power supply features fixed screw holes for surface mounting. Ensure the mounting location allows for adequate ventilation to prevent overheating. Do not obstruct the heat dissipation holes.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Powering On/Off

Once all connections are secure and the input voltage is correctly selected, connect the power supply to the AC mains. An indicator light on the unit will illuminate, signifying that the unit is powered on. Disconnect from the AC mains to power off the unit.

4.2. Load Considerations

This 5V 10A 50W power supply is designed to deliver up to 50W of power. However, for optimal performance, extended lifespan, and to prevent overheating, it is recommended to operate the unit at no more than 80% of its full load capacity. For this 50W model, the recommended maximum continuous load is 40W.

4.3. Applications

This power supply is suitable for a wide range of 5V DC applications, including but not limited to:

  • WS2812B / WS2812B ECO / WS2811 / SK6812RGB / SK6812RGBW / WS2813 / SK9822 LED Strips
  • LED Pixel LED Matrix / LED String / LED Fairy String
  • CCTV Cameras and Security Systems
  • Computer Projects and other 5V electronic devices

5.2. Cleaning

Before cleaning, always disconnect the power supply from the AC mains. Use a dry, soft cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners or sprays, as these can damage the internal components.

5.3. Environmental Conditions

This power supply is strictly for indoor use. Avoid installation in environments with high dust, moisture, extreme temperatures, or corrosive gases.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your power supply, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No power output / Indicator light off
  • No AC input power
  • Incorrect input voltage selection (110V/220V switch)
  • Loose wiring connections
  • Internal fault
  • Check AC power source and power cord.
  • Verify the 110V/220V switch is set correctly.
  • Inspect and tighten all input and output wiring.
  • If problem persists, discontinue use and contact support.
Unstable or incorrect output voltage
  • Overload condition
  • Output voltage adjustment knob misset
  • Faulty connected device
  • Reduce the load to below 80% of max capacity (40W).
  • Adjust the 'ADJ' knob to fine-tune the output voltage.
  • Test with a different device to rule out device fault.
Power supply overheating
  • Overload condition
  • Poor ventilation / Blocked heat dissipation holes
  • High ambient temperature
  • Reduce the load.
  • Ensure adequate airflow around the unit; clear any obstructions.
  • Operate in a cooler environment.
Automatic shutdown
  • Overload protection triggered
  • Over-voltage protection triggered
  • Thermal protection triggered
  • Short circuit protection triggered
  • Identify and resolve the cause (overload, short circuit, overheating).
  • Disconnect power, wait a few minutes, then reconnect.
  • If protection repeatedly triggers, check wiring and load carefully.
