2. Setup Guide

Your PACTO EIGHT folding bike arrives approximately 95% assembled. The following steps detail how to prepare your bike for its first ride.

2.1 Unfolding the Bicycle

  1. Unclip Frame Latch: Locate the main frame hinge latch, usually in the middle of the bike frame. Release the safety catch and open the latch.
  2. Extend Frame: Gently unfold the bike frame until it forms a straight line. Secure the frame latch firmly, ensuring the safety catch is engaged.
  3. Raise Handlebar Post: Loosen the quick-release lever on the handlebar post. Raise the handlebar post to your desired height. Ensure the minimum insertion mark is not visible. Tighten the quick-release lever securely.
  4. Unfold Handlebars: If the handlebars are folded, release their latch and unfold them into the riding position. Secure the latch.
  5. Adjust Seat Post: Loosen the quick-release lever on the seat post. Adjust the seat height for comfortable pedaling, ensuring your leg has a slight bend at the bottom of the pedal stroke. Ensure the minimum insertion mark is not visible. Tighten the quick-release lever securely.
  6. Unfold Pedals: If equipped with folding pedals, push them inward towards the crank arm and then rotate them down until they lock into place.

2.2 Pre-Ride Checks

  • Tire Pressure: Check tire pressure and inflate to the recommended PSI (usually found on the tire sidewall).
  • Brakes: Test both front and rear brakes to ensure they engage smoothly and stop the wheels effectively.
  • Gears: Shift through all 6 gears to confirm smooth operation.
  • Quick Releases: Verify all quick-release levers (frame, handlebar, seat post) are securely tightened.

3. Operating Instructions

Familiarize yourself with the bike's controls before riding.

3.1 Shifting Gears

The PACTO EIGHT features a 6-speed Shimano derailleur system. Use the shifter on the handlebar to change gears. Shift to a lower gear for easier pedaling on inclines and a higher gear for faster speeds on flat terrain. Always pedal lightly while shifting for smoother transitions.

3.2 Braking

The bike is equipped with V-brakes. The right lever typically controls the rear brake, and the left lever controls the front brake. Apply both brakes simultaneously and gradually for controlled stopping. Avoid sudden, hard braking with the front brake only, especially at high speeds, as this can cause instability.

3.3 Folding for Transport and Storage

To fold your PACTO EIGHT bike for transport or storage, reverse the unfolding steps:

  1. Fold Pedals: If applicable, push the pedals inward and fold them upwards.
  2. Lower Seat Post: Loosen the seat post quick-release and lower the seat completely. Tighten the quick-release.
  3. Fold Handlebars: Release the handlebar latch and fold the handlebars down. Secure the latch.
  4. Lower Handlebar Post: Loosen the handlebar post quick-release and lower the post completely. Tighten the quick-release.
  5. Fold Frame: Release the main frame hinge latch and fold the bike in half. Secure the latch and safety catch.

The folded dimensions are approximately H:64 x L:76 x W:35 cm, allowing for easy storage in vehicles or public transport.

4. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your PACTO EIGHT folding bike.

  • Cleaning: Clean the bike regularly with a damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid high-pressure washing, which can damage bearings and seals.
  • Chain Lubrication: Lubricate the chain every 100-200 km or after riding in wet conditions. Use a bicycle-specific chain lubricant.
  • Brake Inspection: Periodically check brake pads for wear and replace them if necessary. Ensure brake cables are not frayed and are properly tensioned.
  • Tire Care: Maintain correct tire pressure. Inspect tires for cuts, punctures, or excessive wear.
  • Bolt and Fastener Check: Regularly check all bolts, nuts, and quick-release levers for tightness. Pay special attention to the folding mechanisms.
  • Gear Adjustment: If gears are not shifting smoothly, they may require adjustment. Consult a bike mechanic if you are unsure.
