1. Introduction

The VOLTCRAFT SEM5000 Energy Cost Meter is a practical and versatile measuring device designed to help you monitor your energy consumption, CO2 emissions, and estimated costs. It features an intuitive LED ring that changes color based on energy measurement, providing an easy visual indication of power usage. The device also includes a data logging function, allowing you to save measurement data to an SD card. 3.1 Components

4. Setup

4.1 Inserting the SD Card

1. Ensure the VOLTCRAFT SEM5000 is unplugged from the wall outlet.
2. Locate the SD card slot on the side of the device (refer to Figure 3.3).
3. Gently insert a compatible SD card into the slot until it clicks into place. Ensure the card is inserted in the correct orientation.
4. To remove the SD card, gently push it inwards until it springs out.

4.2 Initial Power-On

1. Plug the VOLTCRAFT SEM5000 into a standard wall outlet.
2. The display will illuminate, and the device will perform a self-test.
3. The default display mode will show current voltage, current, power, and total energy consumption.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Measurement Display

Once powered on, the device automatically begins measuring. Press the F button to cycle through different display modes:

• Voltage (V), Current (A), Power (W), Total Energy (kWh): Real-time electrical parameters.
• CO2 Emissions: Displays estimated carbon dioxide emissions based on energy consumption.
• Cost Forecast: Provides estimated daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly costs based on current consumption and configured tariffs.
• Overvoltage/Overcurrent Alarm: Indicates if voltage or current exceeds set limits.

5.2 Setting Tariffs

The device allows you to set up to two electricity tariffs for accurate cost calculation.

1. Press and hold the SET button to enter the settings menu.
2. Use the ^ or V buttons to navigate to the "Tariff Setting" option.
3. Press SET to select.
4. Configure Tariff 1 and Tariff 2 rates using the ^ and V buttons, and SET to confirm each digit/value.
5. Set the time periods for each tariff if applicable (e.g., peak and off-peak hours).
6. Press SET to save changes and R to exit the menu.

5.3 Data Logging Function

With an SD card inserted, the device can log measurement data over time.

• Ensure an SD card is properly inserted (see Section 4.1).
• The device will automatically begin logging data at predefined intervals (e.g., minute-by-minute power and current, hourly energy).
• Data is saved in CSV format, typically with separate files for power and energy data (e.g., Voltcraft SEM5000_(YYYYMM)_power.csv and Voltcraft SEM5000_(YYYYMM)_energy.csv).
• To access logged data, remove the SD card and insert it into a computer's card reader.
• The CSV files can be opened and analyzed using spreadsheet software like Microsoft Excel or LibreOffice Calc.

5.4 Overvoltage and Overcurrent Alarm

The device can alert you if the connected appliance draws too much voltage or current.

1. Enter the settings menu by holding SET.
2. Navigate to "Alarm Setting".
3. Set the desired maximum voltage and current thresholds.
4. If the measured values exceed these thresholds, the device will trigger an alarm (visual or audible, depending on model features).
