1. Introduction and Safety Information

This manual provides essential information for the proper use, maintenance, and care of your HJC i71 Metal Motorcycle Helmet. Please read it thoroughly before using your helmet to ensure maximum safety and product longevity.

1.1 Important Safety Warnings

  • DOT FMVSS 218 Approved: This helmet meets or exceeds DOT FMVSS 218 standards, ensuring it has been rigorously tested for energy absorption, penetration resistance, and chin strap integrity.
  • Always wear a properly fitted helmet. An ill-fitting helmet can compromise protection.
  • Never modify your helmet. Modifications can weaken the helmet's structure and compromise its protective capabilities.
  • Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents for cleaning, as they can damage the helmet materials.
  • Replace your helmet after any impact, even if visible damage is not apparent. The helmet's protective capacity may be compromised.

2. Setup and Fitting

2.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the helmet from its packaging. Inspect it for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. The package should contain one HJC i71 Metal Motorcycle Helmet.

2.2 Proper Helmet Fitting

A helmet must fit snugly to provide optimal protection. Follow these steps to ensure a proper fit:

  1. Measure Your Head: Use a flexible tape measure to measure the circumference of your head at its largest point, approximately 1 inch above your eyebrows.
  2. Consult Size Chart: Refer to the HJC Helmet Size Convention Chart below to find your corresponding helmet size.
  3. Try On the Helmet: The helmet should feel snug around your head and cheeks without causing uncomfortable pressure points.
  4. Check for Movement: With the chin strap fastened, try to move the helmet from side to side and up and down. Your skin should move with the helmet, and the helmet should not slide independently.
  5. Chin Strap: Ensure the chin strap is securely fastened and adjusted so that it is snug under your chin, preventing the helmet from rolling off.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Shell Cleaning

Clean the helmet's outer shell with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish and materials.

4.2 Interior Liner Care

The interior liner is removable and washable. Hand wash with mild soap and water, then air dry completely before reinserting into the helmet.

4.3 Visor Cleaning

Clean the visor with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Do not use abrasive materials or chemical cleaners. For anti-fog visors, avoid rubbing the inner surface excessively.

4.4 Storage

Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from scratches and dust.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Visor Fogging

If your visor fogs up, ensure all vents are open to maximize airflow. The integrated sun visor has an anti-fog coating, but in extreme conditions, additional anti-fog treatments may be necessary.

5.2 Helmet Fit Issues

If the helmet feels too loose or too tight, re-evaluate your head measurement and compare it with the size chart. An improper fit can compromise safety and comfort. Contact HJC support if you are unsure about the correct size.

5.3 Excessive Wind Noise

Ensure the visor is fully closed and sealed. Check that all vents are properly closed if you wish to minimize noise. Wind noise can also be influenced by motorcycle type, riding position, and external factors.
