4. Compatibility

This camera system is designed for various VW and Audi models. It is crucial to measure your vehicle's trunk handle dimensions to ensure compatibility if you plan to use the trunk handle camera. Both camera types require a monitor with an RCA connector for video input.

Important: Please check the size of your trunk handle to confirm compatibility with the dedicated trunk handle camera. Refer to the dimensions provided in the image below.

Trunk handle camera dimensions: 4.33 inches (11 cm) width, 1.97 inches (5 cm) height, with a 2.76 inch (7 cm) screw spacing.

The cameras are compatible with various display units that accept RCA video input, including:

  • Double DIN stereo radio head units
  • OEM navigation systems
  • Android DVD players
  • Rearview mirror monitors
  • Backup TFT LCD monitors

5. Installation

5.1. Pre-Installation Check

  1. If using the trunk handle camera, ensure your vehicle's trunk handle dimensions match the camera's specifications.
  2. Confirm your display unit has an RCA video input.
  3. Gather all necessary tools (e.g., mini screwdriver, removal tool, zip ties, wire clamps, electric tape).

5.2. Physical Installation

For Trunk Handle Camera: The camera is designed to replace your existing trunk handle. Use the provided removal tool to carefully remove the original trunk handle. Install the GreenYi camera in its place, ensuring a secure fit.

5.3. Wiring Diagram

Follow the wiring diagram carefully to connect the camera to your vehicle's power supply and display unit. Ensure all connections are secure and properly insulated.

Wiring diagram for the backup camera, showing connections to the head unit's trigger wire, reversing light positive, and ground, as well as direct connection to a monitor.

Figure 5.4: Camera Wiring Diagram. This diagram illustrates two primary wiring configurations: one for connecting to a head unit with a trigger wire (A to B, C to reversing/brake/turning light positive or ACC), and another for connecting directly to a monitor (power cable to reversing light positive and ground, video cable to monitor).

  • Power Cable: Connect the red wire to a 12-24V DC power source (e.g., reversing light positive, brake light positive, turning light positive, or ACC). Connect the black wire to vehicle ground (GND).
  • Video Cable: Connect the RCA video cable from the camera to the RCA video input on your display unit.
  • Trigger Wire (if applicable): If your head unit has a trigger wire for the rearview camera, connect it as shown in the diagram (A connects to B, C connects to reversing/brake/turning light positive or ACC).

Note: For some vehicle models, the power supply might be outside the optimal range (too high or too low) for the camera. In such cases, an additional relay filter (not included) may be required.

6. Operation

6.1. Basic Functionality

Once properly installed and powered, the camera will automatically activate when your vehicle is put into reverse gear (if connected to the reversing light power source). The video feed will appear on your connected display unit.

The camera features a 170-degree wide viewing angle and dynamic trajectory guidelines that adjust with your vehicle's movement, providing assistance during parking and reversing.

6.2. Adjusting Camera Features with Switcher Cables

The camera includes three switcher cables that allow you to modify its functionality. To activate a change, cut the respective cable and then reconnect the camera's power supply.

Diagram showing three switcher cables (white, orange, green) and their functions: white for mirror/non-mirror image, orange for CVBS/AHD video signal, green for turning guidelines on/off.

Figure 6.3: Switcher Cable Functions. This image illustrates the purpose of the three colored switcher cables: the white cable toggles between mirror (rear view) and non-mirror (front view) images, the orange cable switches between CVBS and AHD video signals, and the green cable turns the dynamic guidelines on or off.

  • White Cable: Cut this cable to switch from a mirror image (default, for rear view) to a non-mirror image (for front view applications).
  • Orange Cable: Cut this cable to switch the video signal from CVBS to AHD. Use this option only if your monitor supports AHD 720P 30HZ (NTSC) video settings.
  • Green Cable: Cut this cable to turn off the dynamic guidelines. If your head unit displays its own guidelines, you may want to disable the camera's guidelines to avoid dual display.

Important: After cutting any cable, you must disconnect and then reconnect the camera's power supply for the change to take effect. If needed, you can reconnect a cut cable to revert the setting.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Issue: Two sets of guidelines appear on the display.

Solution: Your head unit may be generating its own guidelines. To resolve this, either change the setting on your head unit to turn off its original guidelines or cut the green switcher cable on the camera to disable the camera's guidelines. Remember to reconnect power after cutting the cable.

  • Issue: Camera is not working properly or image is unstable.

Solution: For some vehicle models, the power supply voltage may be outside the optimal range (too high or too low) for the camera. You may need to purchase and install an external relay filter (not included) to stabilize the power supply to the camera.

  • Issue: No image on the monitor.

    Solution:

    • Check all power connections to ensure they are secure and receiving proper voltage (12-24V DC).
    • Verify the RCA video cable is securely connected to both the camera and the monitor's video input.
    • Ensure the monitor is set to the correct video input channel.
    • If using the orange switcher cable, ensure your monitor supports AHD 720P 30HZ (NTSC) video. If not, revert the orange cable to its original state.

  • Issue: Image is upside down or reversed.

Solution: If the image orientation is incorrect, cut the white switcher cable to toggle between mirror and non-mirror images. Reconnect power after cutting.

8. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the camera lens with a soft, damp cloth to ensure a clear view. Avoid abrasive cleaners that could scratch the lens.
  • Connections: Periodically check all wiring connections for corrosion or looseness. Secure any loose connections to prevent intermittent operation.
  • Environmental Protection: The camera is IP68 waterproof, but extreme conditions can still affect its lifespan. Avoid direct high-pressure water jets on the camera.
