Setup

Initial Setup and Formatting

The PNY Duo Link Flash Drive comes pre-formatted, typically as FAT32, which ensures broad compatibility across various operating systems. However, FAT32 has a limitation where individual files cannot exceed 4GB in size. If you plan to transfer files larger than 4GB (e.g., high-definition videos), it is recommended to reformat the drive to exFAT.

Important Note: Reformatting the drive will erase all existing data. Please back up any important files before proceeding.

How to Reformat (Windows):

  1. Connect the PNY Duo Link drive to your computer's USB-A or USB-C port.
  2. Open "This PC" or "My Computer".
  3. Right-click on the drive icon for your PNY Duo Link.
  4. Select "Format...".
  5. In the File system dropdown, choose "exFAT".
  6. Ensure "Quick Format" is checked.
  7. Click "Start" and confirm the action.

How to Reformat (macOS):

  1. Connect the PNY Duo Link drive to your Mac's USB-A or USB-C port.
  2. Open "Disk Utility" (Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility).
  3. Select the PNY Duo Link drive from the sidebar (ensure you select the drive itself, not just a volume under it).
  4. Click the "Erase" button in the toolbar.
  5. For "Format", choose "ExFAT". For "Scheme", choose "GUID Partition Map" (if available, otherwise leave as default).
  6. Click "Erase" and confirm the action.

Connecting the Drive

The PNY Duo Link features two connectors for broad compatibility:

  • USB Type-C: For devices with a USB-C port, such as newer Android smartphones, tablets, and modern laptops/desktops.

Transferring Files

Once connected, the PNY Duo Link will appear as an external storage device on your mobile device or computer. You can then drag and drop files to and from the drive just like any other external storage.

On Android Devices:

Most Android devices will automatically detect the drive. You may need to use a file manager app (either pre-installed or downloaded from the Google Play Store) to browse and transfer files. Look for an option like "USB Storage" or "OTG Device".
