1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the Keychron Q1 Pro Wireless Custom Mechanical Keyboard. The Q1 Pro is a full-metal, QMK/VIA programmable, 75% layout keyboard featuring both Bluetooth and wired connectivity, RGB backlighting, and hot-swappable switches. It is designed for compatibility with Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems.

2. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your Keychron Q1 Pro package:

3. Setup and Connectivity

3.1 Initial Charging

Before first use, it is recommended to fully charge the keyboard. Connect the provided USB Type-C to Type-C cable to the keyboard and a power source. The keyboard features a 4000 mAh battery, providing up to 100 hours of use at the lowest brightness setting.

3.2 Wireless (Bluetooth) Connection

The Q1 Pro supports stable Broadcom Bluetooth 5.1, allowing connection to up to 3 devices simultaneously.

  1. Ensure the keyboard's mode switch (located on the back or side) is set to 'Bluetooth'.
  2. To enter pairing mode, press and hold the 'Fn' key and '1' (or '2', '3') for 4 seconds until the key backlight flashes rapidly.
  3. On your device (laptop, phone, tablet), navigate to Bluetooth settings and select 'Keychron Q1 Pro' from the list of available devices.
  4. Once connected, the backlight will stop flashing. You can switch between paired devices by pressing 'Fn' + '1', 'Fn' + '2', or 'Fn' + '3'.

3.3 Wired (USB Type-C) Connection

For a direct and responsive connection, use the provided USB Type-C cable.

  1. Ensure the keyboard's mode switch is set to 'Cable'.
  2. Connect one end of the USB Type-C cable to the keyboard's port and the other end to your computer.
  3. The keyboard will be automatically recognized by your system.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Operating System Switch

The keyboard has a dedicated switch to toggle between Mac and Windows/Linux modes. This ensures correct key mapping for Command/Alt and Windows/Alt keys.

  • Locate the OS switch on the back or side of the keyboard.
  • Slide the switch to the appropriate operating system (Mac or Win).

4.2 QMK/VIA Programmability

The Keychron Q1 Pro is fully programmable with QMK/VIA software, allowing you to remap any key, create macros, shortcuts, and combination keys.

  1. Download the VIA software from the official Keychron website.
  2. Connect the Q1 Pro to your device via USB Type-C cable. VIA software only recognizes the keyboard in wired mode for remapping.
  3. Open the VIA software. The keyboard should be automatically detected.
  4. Drag and drop desired keys or macro commands to remap any key. Changes are saved directly to the keyboard's firmware and will work in both wired and wireless modes.

4.3 RGB Backlight Settings

The keyboard features 22 types of RGB backlight settings. You can adjust hue, saturation, brightness, effect speed, and modes.

  • Use the dedicated backlight keys (often Fn + light icon or similar) to cycle through modes.
  • Further adjustments can be made through the VIA software.

4.4 Programmable Knob

5. Hot-Swappable Switches

The Q1 Pro features hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to change mechanical switches without soldering. It is compatible with almost all 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches (e.g., Cherry, Gateron, Kailh, Panda).

5.2 Replacing Switches and Keycaps

To replace switches or keycaps, use the provided tools:

  1. Keycap Removal: Use the keycap puller to gently grip and pull the keycap straight up.
  2. Switch Removal: Use the switch puller to grasp the top and bottom clips of the switch and pull it straight up.
  3. Switch Installation: Align the new switch's pins with the holes on the PCB. Gently press down until it clicks into place. Ensure pins are not bent.
  4. Keycap Installation: Align the keycap with the switch stem and press down firmly.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

Regular cleaning helps maintain the keyboard's performance and appearance.

  • Disconnect the keyboard from all power sources before cleaning.
  • Use a soft brush or compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the keycaps.
  • For keycaps, remove them using the keycap puller and clean with a mild soap solution and a soft cloth. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching.
  • Wipe the keyboard case with a slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals.

6.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the keyboard in a dry, dust-free environment. An acrylic cover can help protect it from dust accumulation.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Keychron Q1 Pro, refer to the following common solutions:

  • Keyboard not responding: Ensure the keyboard is charged. Check the mode switch (Bluetooth/Cable) is set correctly. Try reconnecting the USB cable or re-pairing Bluetooth.
  • Bluetooth connectivity issues: Ensure no other devices are interfering. Try forgetting the device on your computer and re-pairing. Ensure the keyboard is within range.
  • Keys not registering: If a specific key is not working, try removing and re-seating its switch. If the issue persists, the switch may need replacement.
  • RGB backlight not working: Check backlight settings using Fn key combinations. Ensure the keyboard is not in a low-power mode.
  • VIA software not detecting keyboard: Ensure the keyboard is connected via USB cable and the mode switch is set to 'Cable'. Restart the VIA software and/or your computer.
