4. Setup
4.1. Installing Batteries
The 3.5V non-rechargeable handle requires two C-cell alkaline batteries (not included).
- Unscrew the bottom cap of the handle.
- Insert two C-cell batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the handle.
- Screw the bottom cap back on securely.
4.2. Attaching the Otoscope Head
- Align the otoscope head with the top of the handle.
- Gently push the head onto the handle and twist clockwise until it clicks into place and is securely fastened.
4.3. Attaching a Speculum
- Select an appropriate size disposable speculum.
- Push the speculum onto the tip of the otoscope head until it is firmly seated.
- Always use a new, clean speculum for each patient to prevent cross-contamination.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Powering On/Off
To turn the otoscope on, rotate the rheostat control on the handle clockwise. Continue rotating to increase light intensity. To turn off, rotate the control counter-clockwise until it clicks off.
5.2. Focusing
The otoscope features a focusing wheel. Rotate the focusing wheel on the otoscope head to achieve a clear view of the ear canal and tympanic membrane.
5.3. Using the Insufflation Port
The otoscope head includes an insufflation port for pneumatic otoscopy. Attach a rubber bulb (not included) to this port to assess tympanic membrane mobility.
6. Maintenance and Care
6.1. Cleaning
- Otoscope Head and Handle: Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution or an approved medical-grade disinfectant. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse in liquids.
- Specula: Always use disposable specula. Discard after each use.
- Optics: Gently clean the lens with a lens cleaning solution and a soft, lint-free cloth.
6.2. Storage
When not in use, store the otoscope in its hard protective case in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures and direct sunlight. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
