1. Introduction
The SONICWARE LIVEN Lofi-12 is a compact and versatile lo-fi groovebox and sampler designed for music creation and performance. It combines a retro 12-bit sampling engine with a powerful 4-track step sequencer, offering a unique sound and intuitive workflow. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your LIVEN Lofi-12.

4. Setup
4.1 Powering On/Off
The LIVEN Lofi-12 can be powered using 6 AA batteries or an optional DC9V power adapter. To power on, slide the power switch located on the rear panel to the 'ON' position. To power off, slide the switch to 'OFF'.
4.2 Connecting Peripherals
The Lofi-12 features various input and output options:
- Audio Output: Connect headphones or external speakers to the LINE OUT jack (3.5mm stereo).
- Audio Input: Connect an external audio source for sampling to the LINE IN jack (3.5mm stereo).
- MIDI Connectivity: Use the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports (5-pin DIN) to connect to other MIDI devices or a computer via a MIDI interface.
- Sync: Use the SYNC IN/OUT ports (3.5mm mono) for analog clock synchronization with compatible devices.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Controls
The LIVEN Lofi-12 features a intuitive layout with knobs for various parameters and a 16-button keyboard for input and sequencing. Familiarize yourself with the main control sections:
- Top Row Knobs: Control parameters like BANK, SAMPLE, SPEED, FX, and AMOUNT.
- Filter Section: CUTOFF, FLTR, DEPTH, EG knobs for sound shaping.
- LFO Section: RATE, LFO, PITCH, DEPTH, FILTER knobs for modulation.
- Track Controls: Buttons 1-4 for track selection, mute, and parameter recording.
- Keyboard: 16 white buttons for playing notes, triggering samples, and step sequencing.

5.2 Sampling
The Lofi-12 allows you to sample external audio sources directly. Connect your audio source to the LINE IN jack. Press the SAMPLE button (usually located on the bottom left) to enter sampling mode. Follow the on-screen prompts to record and trim your samples. Samples can then be assigned to the keyboard for chromatic playback.
5.3 Sequencing
The 4-track step sequencer is central to creating patterns. Each track can hold a different sound or sample. Use the TRACK buttons (1-4) to select a track. In record mode, you can input notes or trigger samples using the 16 keyboard buttons. The sequencer supports parameter locking, allowing you to record knob movements for dynamic patterns.

5.4 Effects
The Lofi-12 offers a wide range of effects to enhance your sound. There are 11 types of track effects that can be applied individually to each of the four tracks, and 9 types of master effects that affect the overall output. Use the FX and AMOUNT knobs to select and adjust effects.

5.5 Playing Preset Patterns
The LIVEN Lofi-12 comes with pre-loaded patterns to get you started. You can browse and play these patterns to understand the device's capabilities or use them as a starting point for your own creations. The following video demonstrates some of the preset patterns:

6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and functionality of your LIVEN Lofi-12, regularly wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the surface. Ensure no liquids enter the device through openings.
6.2 Battery Replacement
The LIVEN Lofi-12 requires 6 AA batteries. When the battery indicator on the display is low or the unit behaves erratically, it's time to replace the batteries. Open the battery compartment on the underside of the unit, remove the old batteries, and insert new ones, ensuring correct polarity. Dispose of used batteries responsibly.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your LIVEN Lofi-12, try the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power: Check battery installation or power adapter connection. Ensure the power switch is fully in the 'ON' position.
- No Sound: Verify volume levels on the Lofi-12 and any connected audio equipment. Check audio cable connections. Ensure tracks are not muted.
- MIDI Issues: Confirm MIDI cable connections and MIDI settings on both the Lofi-12 and the external device. Check MIDI channel settings.
