2. Safety Information
Always adhere to the following safety guidelines to ensure proper operation and prevent injury or damage to the device:
- Use the otoscope only for its intended purpose of ear examination.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or modify the device. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
- Ensure batteries are inserted correctly according to polarity markings.
- Keep the device out of reach of children.
- Avoid direct eye exposure to the LED light.
- Clean and disinfect reusable specula before and after each use as per medical guidelines.
- Store the device in its protective case when not in use to prevent damage.

4. Setup
4.1. Battery Installation
The Riester e-Scope Otoscope requires two (2) AA batteries (not included) for operation.
- Unscrew the bottom cap of the battery handle (Component 7 in Figure 2).
- Insert two AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
- Screw the bottom cap back on securely.

4.2. Attaching Ear Specula
Select the appropriate size of ear speculum (2.5 mm for children, 4.0 mm for adults) for the examination.
- Gently push the desired ear speculum onto the speculum receptacle (Component 4 in Figure 2) until it clicks into place.
- To remove, gently pull the speculum straight off.

5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Powering On/Off
To turn the otoscope on, slide the On/Off switch (Component 6 in Figure 2) upwards. To turn it off, slide the switch downwards.
5.2. Performing an Examination
- Ensure a clean speculum is attached.
- Turn on the otoscope light.
- Gently insert the speculum into the ear canal.
- Look through the viewing lens (Component 3 in Figure 2) to observe the ear canal and tympanic membrane.
- The 3x magnifying lens can be pivoted to either side for an optimal view and to facilitate instrument insertion if needed.
- After examination, turn off the otoscope and remove the speculum.

5.3. Pneumatic Testing (Optional)
The e-Scope Otoscope is suitable for performance of pneumatic tests. This requires a separate connector and insufflator, which are not supplied with this product. Connect the insufflator to the pneumatic test connection (Component 5 in Figure 2) as per the insufflator's instructions.
6. Maintenance and Care
6.1. Cleaning and Disinfection
- Reusable Specula: Clean and disinfect reusable ear specula thoroughly before and after each use according to standard medical sterilization procedures.
- Otoscope Head and Handle: Wipe the exterior of the otoscope head and handle with a soft cloth dampened with a mild disinfectant solution. Do not immerse the device in liquid.
- Lens: Gently clean the magnifying lens with a lens cleaning cloth or cotton swab moistened with lens cleaner. Avoid abrasive materials.
6.2. Battery Replacement
Replace batteries when the light intensity diminishes. Follow the steps in Section 4.1 for battery installation.
6.3. Storage
Store the otoscope in its provided protective case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, when not in use.
