SEIKO SSC911

SEIKO Prospex Speedtimer SSC911 Instruction Manual

Model: SSC911

Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the proper use and care of your SEIKO Prospex Speedtimer SSC911 watch. Inspired by SEIKO's 1969 Speedtimer, one of the world's first automatic chronographs, this model combines classic design with modern solar technology. It is powered by light energy, eliminating the need for battery changes, and offers a 6-month power reserve when fully charged. The chronograph function measures up to 60 minutes of elapsed time in 1/5-second increments, including split time measurement.

Setup

1. Initial Charging

Your SEIKO Prospex Speedtimer SSC911 is a solar-powered watch. To ensure optimal performance, expose the watch dial to a bright light source (natural sunlight is ideal) for several hours upon first use or if the watch has stopped. A full charge provides approximately 6 months of power reserve.

2. Setting the Time and Date

To set the time, pull the crown out to the designated position and rotate it to adjust the hour and minute hands. Push the crown back in to start the watch. For date adjustment, pull the crown out to the first click and rotate it to change the date. Note that the date display on this model is compact.

3. Adjusting the Bracelet

The stainless steel bracelet can be adjusted for a comfortable fit. This typically involves removing or adding links. It is recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified watch technician to avoid damage to the pins and ensure proper reassembly.

Operating the Chronograph

1. Starting and Stopping the Chronograph

The SEIKO Prospex Speedtimer SSC911 features a chronograph function. Press the upper pusher to start the chronograph. The central red hand will begin to measure seconds, and the sub-dials will track minutes and hours. Press the upper pusher again to stop the chronograph.

2. Resetting the Chronograph

After stopping the chronograph, press the lower pusher to reset all chronograph hands to their zero positions.

3. Split Time Measurement

To measure split times, press the lower pusher while the chronograph is running. The chronograph hands will pause, allowing you to read the split time. Press the lower pusher again to resume chronograph measurement from where it left off. After stopping the chronograph, press the lower pusher to reset.

4. Understanding the 24-Hour Subdial

The 24-hour subdial on this watch replicates the main hour hand's position in 24-hour format. It is not an independent counter or a GMT function.

Maintenance and Care

1. Cleaning

Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust and smudges. For the stainless steel case and bracelet, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by drying with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

2. Charging Habits

To maintain the 6-month power reserve, ensure the watch is regularly exposed to light. If stored in darkness for extended periods, the power reserve will deplete.

3. Sapphire Crystal

The watch features a curved sapphire crystal, known for its scratch resistance. While highly durable, it is not entirely scratch-proof and can chip or break under extreme impact.
