Setup and Initial Adjustments
1. Attaching the Neck Strap
To attach the neck strap, thread the ends of the strap through the strap lugs on each side of the binocular body. Secure the strap by feeding it back through the buckle, ensuring it is firmly fastened. Double-check the attachment points to prevent accidental drops.
2. Adjusting Eyecups
- For non-eyeglass wearers: Twist the eyecups counter-clockwise until they are fully extended.
- For eyeglass wearers: Twist the eyecups clockwise until they are fully retracted. This allows your eyes to be closer to the ocular lenses, providing a full field of view.
3. Interpupillary Distance (IPD) Adjustment
The interpupillary distance is the distance between the centers of your pupils. To adjust, hold the binoculars up to your eyes and look through them. Move the two halves of the binoculars closer together or further apart until you see a single, clear circular field of view. Ensure both eyes are comfortable and the image is not vignetted.
4. Diopter Adjustment
The diopter adjustment compensates for differences in vision between your left and right eyes. Follow these steps:
- Close your right eye or cover the right objective lens.
- Look through the left eyepiece at a distant object. Rotate the central focus knob until the object is in sharp focus for your left eye.
- Close your left eye or cover the left objective lens.
- Look through the right eyepiece. Without touching the central focus knob, rotate the diopter ring (on the right eyepiece) until the object is in sharp focus for your right eye.
- Your binoculars are now adjusted for your eyes. From this point forward, use only the central focus knob to focus on objects.
Operating Your Binoculars
Focusing
Once the diopter is set, simply use the central focus knob to bring objects at various distances into sharp focus. Turn the knob slowly for precise adjustments.
Environmental Conditions
Your Bushnell Prime 10x42 binoculars are designed to perform in challenging conditions:
- Waterproof (IPX7): These binoculars are sealed with O-rings and purged with nitrogen to prevent moisture from entering the housing. They can withstand immersion in up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes.
- Fogproof: The nitrogen purging also prevents internal fogging of the lenses due to rapid temperature changes or humidity.
While designed for durability, avoid unnecessary exposure to extreme conditions or prolonged submersion.
Maintenance and Care
Cleaning Lenses
Always use the provided lens cleaning cloth or a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn spots, a small amount of lens cleaning fluid designed for optics can be applied to the cloth, not directly to the lens. Avoid using abrasive cloths, paper towels, or facial tissues, as these can scratch lens surfaces.
EXO Barrier Lens Coating
The exclusive EXO Barrier lens coating repels water, oil, fog, dust, and debris, ensuring clear viewing even in adverse conditions. This coating reduces the need for frequent cleaning and helps maintain optical clarity.
Storage
When not in use, store your binoculars in their protective carrying case in a cool, dry place. Avoid storing them in direct sunlight or in areas with high humidity.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your binoculars, refer to the following common solutions:
- Blurry Image:
- Ensure the central focus knob is properly adjusted for your viewing distance.
- Verify the diopter setting is correct for your individual eye strength.
- Check if the objective or ocular lenses are dirty and clean them as per the "Maintenance and Care" section.
- Double Image or Vignetting:
- Adjust the interpupillary distance (IPD) by moving the binocular barrels closer or further apart until a single, circular field of view is achieved.
- Difficulty with Eyecups:
- Ensure eyecups are twisted to the correct position (extended for non-eyeglass wearers, retracted for eyeglass wearers).
