Safety Precautions
- Always use coarsely ground coffee. Fine grounds can clog the filter and create excessive pressure.
- Do not use boiling water directly. Allow water to cool for a minute after boiling (optimal temperature is 92-96°C / 195-205°F).
- Do not overfill the French press. Leave at least 2.5 cm (1 inch) of space from the top.
- Press the plunger down slowly and steadily. Forcing it down can cause hot liquid to spray out.
- Keep out of reach of children when hot.
Components
Your Bodum Tribute Press consists of the following main parts:
- Lid: With integrated plunger rod and knob.
- Plunger Assembly: Includes the mesh filter screen and spiral plate.
- Insulated Carafe: Double-wall stainless steel body with handle.
Setup
Before first use, wash all components thoroughly with warm, soapy water and rinse well. Ensure all parts are dry before assembly.
- Ensure the plunger assembly is clean and properly seated within the lid.
- Place the carafe on a flat, stable, heat-resistant surface.
Operating Instructions: Brewing Coffee
Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of coffee:
- Preheat (Optional): Pour a small amount of hot water into the carafe, swirl, and discard. This helps maintain coffee temperature.
- Add Coffee Grounds: For every 200 ml (6.8 oz) of water, add one rounded tablespoon or one Bodum scoop of coarsely ground coffee. Adjust to your preferred strength.
- Add Hot Water: Pour hot (not boiling) water into the carafe, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently with a non-metal spoon. Do not fill past the metal band.
- Place Lid: Place the lid on the carafe with the plunger pulled all the way up. Do not press down yet.
- Brew: Allow the coffee to brew for 4 minutes. For a stronger brew, you may extend the time slightly.
- Press Plunger: Slowly and steadily press the plunger straight down. Apply gentle, even pressure. Do not force it.
- Serve: Pour the freshly brewed coffee into your cup. Do not let brewed coffee sit in the French press for extended periods as it can become bitter.

Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and longevity of your French press.
- After Each Use: Discard coffee grounds. Rinse the carafe and plunger assembly with warm water.
- Dishwasher Safe: The Bodum Tribute Press is dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning. Place all components on the top rack.
- Hand Washing: For hand washing, use warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge or brush. Rinse thoroughly.
- Disassembly for Deep Cleaning: The plunger assembly can be unscrewed for a more thorough cleaning of the mesh filter and spiral plate. Reassemble carefully, ensuring the mesh filter is flat.
- Drying: Allow all parts to air dry completely before storing to prevent water spots or odors.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee grounds in cup | Coffee grounds too fine; plunger not fully pressed; damaged mesh filter. | Use coarser grounds; ensure plunger is fully pressed; inspect and replace mesh filter if damaged. |
| Weak coffee | Not enough coffee; water not hot enough; insufficient brewing time. | Increase coffee amount; use hotter water (92-96°C); extend brewing time to 5 minutes. |
| Coffee tastes bitter | Over-extraction (too long brewing); water too hot; fine grounds. | Reduce brewing time; use slightly cooler water; ensure grounds are coarse. |
| Plunger difficult to press | Coffee grounds too fine; too much coffee; clogged filter. | Use coarser grounds; reduce coffee amount; clean filter thoroughly. |
