4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation and Charging

The RB689 radio comes with a 2600mAh Lithium-ion battery. Ensure the battery is fully charged before first use.

1. To install the battery, align it with the battery compartment on the back of the radio and press firmly until it clicks into place.
2. To charge the radio, place it in the charging cradle. Connect the charging cable to the cradle and a suitable USB power source. The LED indicator on the radio will show charging status.
3. The wireless earpiece has a 180mAh battery. Charge it using the provided Type-C charging cable.

4.2 Wireless Earpiece Pairing

The wireless earpiece connects automatically to the radio. Follow these steps for initial pairing:

1. Ensure the RB689 radio is powered on.
2. Long press the PF2 key on the walkie-talkie to activate its wireless function.
3. Long press the power button on the wireless earpiece for approximately 5 seconds to turn it on.
4. The earpiece and radio will automatically pair. A confirmation indicator (e.g., LED change) will show successful connection.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

To power on the radio, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise until you hear a click. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks.

5.2 Channel Selection

Use the Channel Selector knob (typically located on top of the radio) to select one of the 16 available channels. The selected channel will be displayed on the LED screen.

5.3 Transmitting and Receiving (PTT)

To transmit, press and hold the Push-To-Talk (PTT) button on the side of the radio or on the wireless earpiece. Speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to receive.

5.4 VOX Function

The Voice Operated Exchange (VOX) function allows you to transmit without pressing the PTT button. To activate VOX, long press the PF1 button on the radio. Speak into the microphone, and the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. Long press PF1 again to deactivate.

5.5 Flashlight Function

The RB689 includes a built-in flashlight for convenience in dark environments. Refer to your radio's specific button layout for flashlight activation (often a short press of a programmable function key).
