Setup
Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove the guitar from its packaging. Inspect the instrument for any signs of damage that may have occurred during shipping. Retain all packaging materials for future transport or if the guitar needs to be returned.
Initial Tuning
The guitar may not be in tune upon arrival. Use a reliable electronic tuner to bring the strings to standard pitch (E-A-D-G-B-e, low to high). New strings may require frequent re-tuning until they stabilize.
Strap Installation
Attach your guitar strap securely to the strap buttons located on the body of the guitar. Ensure the strap is properly seated to prevent accidental drops.
Operating Instructions
Controls Overview
The ESP LTD EC-1000T CTM features the following controls:
- Volume Knob: Controls the overall output level of the guitar.
- Tone Knob: Adjusts the treble response. Turning it clockwise increases treble, counter-clockwise decreases it.
- Pickup Selector Switch: A 3-way toggle switch to select pickups:
- Up Position: Neck pickup only.
- Middle Position: Both neck and bridge pickups.
- Down Position: Bridge pickup only.
- Push/Pull Potentiometers: The Fishman Fluence Open Core Classic Humbucker pickups feature push/pull functionality on the volume and tone knobs to access different voicings. Refer to the Fishman Fluence documentation for detailed voicing options.
Connecting to an Amplifier
Connect a standard 1/4-inch instrument cable from the guitar's output jack to the input of your amplifier. Ensure the amplifier's volume is set to a low level before turning it on to avoid sudden loud noises.
Maintenance
Cleaning
Regularly wipe down the guitar body, neck, and strings with a soft, lint-free cloth after each use to remove sweat and oils. For the body, a guitar-specific polish can be used sparingly. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
String Replacement
Strings should be replaced periodically, depending on usage. Replace one string at a time to maintain neck tension. Use high-quality strings of the appropriate gauge for electric guitars.
Fretboard Care
The Macassar ebony fretboard benefits from occasional conditioning to prevent drying and cracking. Use a fretboard conditioner specifically designed for unfinished wood fretboards. Apply sparingly and wipe off any excess.
Hardware Inspection
Periodically check all screws and hardware (tuners, bridge, strap buttons) for tightness. Do not overtighten.
Troubleshooting
- No Sound: Check cable connections, amplifier power, guitar volume knob, and pickup selector switch. Ensure the guitar cable is fully inserted into both the guitar and amplifier.
- Buzzing/Humming: This can be caused by faulty cables, improper grounding, or interference from electronic devices. Try a different cable, check your power outlet, or move away from sources of electromagnetic interference.
- Poor Intonation: If notes are out of tune higher up the neck, the bridge saddles may need adjustment. This is a more advanced setup procedure and may require professional assistance.
- Dead Spots/Fret Buzz: Can indicate uneven frets or improper neck relief. Consult a qualified guitar technician for adjustment.
