4. Setup Instructions

4.1 Power Connection

Connect the supplied AC cable to the E70's power input and then to a suitable power outlet. The unit will enter standby mode.

4.2 Input Connections

The E70 supports multiple digital audio inputs:

  • USB Input: Connect your computer or compatible device using the provided USB cable. For Windows systems, a specific driver may be required for optimal performance (refer to Topping's official website for driver downloads).
  • Optical Input: Connect an optical cable from your source device (e.g., TV, game console) to the E70's optical input.
  • Coaxial Input: Connect a coaxial cable from your source device to the E70's coaxial input.
  • Bluetooth Input: Attach the Bluetooth antenna to the designated port on the E70. Enable Bluetooth on your source device and pair with the E70.

4.3 Output Connections

The E70 offers both balanced and single-ended analog outputs:

  • XLR Outputs: For balanced connection to compatible amplifiers or active speakers.
  • RCA Outputs: For single-ended connection to amplifiers or other audio equipment.

You can configure the output mode (XLR only, RCA only, or XLR + RCA) via the device settings.

4.4 12V Trigger Interface

The E70 includes a 12V Trigger interface (Trigger out and Trigger in) for synchronized power control with other devices. Use a 3.5mm cable to connect the E70 to compatible equipment, such as the Topping L70 headphone amplifier, allowing them to power on/off together.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Press the power button on the front panel or the remote control to turn the E70 on or off. The E70 also features an automatic On/Off function: it will power on when a valid signal is detected on a selected input and power off after 1 minute if no valid signal is present.

5.2 Input Selection

Use the input selection button on the front panel or the remote control to cycle through available inputs: USB, Optical, Coaxial, and Bluetooth.

5.3 DAC Mode vs. Preamplifier Mode

The E70 operates in two primary modes:

  • DAC Mode: In this mode, the output level is fixed. The E70 acts purely as a Digital-to-Analog Converter.
  • DAC + Preamplifier Mode: This mode allows you to control the output volume from -99dB to 0dB using the front panel knob or the remote control. This is useful when connecting directly to a power amplifier or active speakers.

Image 5.1: The E70's preamplifier function allows direct connection to power amplifiers or active speakers.

5.4 Output Configuration

The E70 allows selection of output types and voltage levels:

  • Output Selection: Choose between "XLR only", "RCA only", or "XLR + RCA" outputs based on your connected equipment.
  • Output Voltage: The E70 supports 4V and 5V modes for XLR outputs, and 2V and 2.5V modes for RCA outputs. Select the appropriate voltage based on your amplifier's input sensitivity to avoid clipping or to achieve optimal gain.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your E70 DAC Preamp:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block ventilation openings.
  • Environment: Operate the E70 in a clean, dry environment, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your E70, please refer to the following common solutions:

  • No Sound Output:
    • Check all cable connections (power, input, output).
    • Ensure the correct input source is selected on the E70.
    • Verify that your amplifier or active speakers are powered on and set to the correct input.
    • If in preamplifier mode, ensure the volume is not set to minimum (-99dB).
  • Intermittent Sound / Flutter:
    • This can sometimes occur with certain input sources, particularly optical from some TVs.
    • Ensure your E70 firmware is up to date. Check the official Topping website for the latest firmware and installation instructions.
    • If using USB, ensure the correct drivers are installed and updated.
  • Bluetooth Connection Issues:
    • Ensure the Bluetooth antenna is securely attached.
    • Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your source device and the E70 is in pairing mode.
    • Try unpairing and re-pairing the device.
  • Remote Control Unresponsive:
    • Check the battery in the remote control.
    • Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the E70's IR receiver.
    • Point the remote directly at the E70.

If problems persist, please contact AOSHIDA customer support for further assistance.
