4. Setup Guide

  1. Connect Power: Connect the provided power adapter to the DC IN port on the back of the docking station, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
  2. Insert Hard Drives:
    • Ensure the docking station is powered off.
    • Align your 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD with the drive bay slot.
    • Gently insert the drive into the slot until it is firmly seated. The tool-free design allows for easy insertion.
    • For dual-bay operation, repeat for the second drive.
  3. Connect to Computer:
    • Connect one end of the provided USB-C cable to the USB port on the docking station.
    • Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to a USB-C port on your computer. If your computer only has USB-A ports, use the included USB-C to USB-A adapter.
  4. Power On: Press the power button on the docking station to turn it on. The indicator lights will illuminate.
  5. Drive Recognition: Your operating system should automatically detect the connected drives. If a new drive is not recognized, it may need to be initialized and formatted through your computer's disk management utility.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Data Transfer

Once the docking station is connected to your computer and the drives are recognized, you can access them like any other external storage device. Drag and drop files, copy, paste, or use any file management software to transfer data between your computer and the drives, or between the two drives inserted in the docking station.

The USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface supports transfer speeds up to 10Gbps, ensuring fast and efficient data operations, provided your computer's USB port also supports this speed.

5.2. Offline Clone Function

The offline clone function allows you to duplicate a source drive to a target drive without the need for a computer. This is ideal for data backup or migrating an operating system.

Diagram illustrating the offline clone duplicator process, showing a source disk cloning to a target disk. The target disk capacity must be greater than or equal to the source disk.

Figure 5.1: Offline Clone Duplicator process.

  1. Prepare Drives:
    • Ensure the docking station is powered off and disconnected from any computer.
    • Insert the Source drive (the drive you want to copy from) into the "Source" bay (usually Bay 1).
    • Insert the Target drive (the drive you want to copy to) into the "Target" bay (usually Bay 2).
    • Important: The capacity of the Target drive must be equal to or greater than the capacity of the Source drive. All data on the Target drive will be erased during the cloning process.
  2. Start Cloning:
    • Power on the docking station.
    • Locate the "Start" button (often small and recessed) on the docking station.
    • Press and hold the "Start" button for approximately 5 seconds until the cloning process begins. Indicator lights will typically show the cloning progress (e.g., 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%).
  3. Completion: The cloning process is complete when all progress indicator lights are solid. Power off the docking station and safely remove the drives.

Note: The cloning time will vary depending on the capacity and speed of the drives. Do not disconnect power or drives during the cloning process.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the docking station. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the docking station in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Handling: Handle the device and hard drives with care to prevent physical damage. Avoid dropping or subjecting the unit to strong vibrations.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation holes are not obstructed to allow for proper heat dissipation, especially during extended operation.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Drive not recognized by computer.
  • Power not connected or unit off.
  • Loose USB cable connection.
  • Drive not properly seated.
  • New drive not initialized/formatted.
  • Faulty drive.
  • Ensure power adapter is connected and unit is powered on.
  • Check USB cable connections on both ends. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • Re-insert the drive firmly into the bay.
  • For new drives, go to Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to initialize and format the drive.
  • Test the drive in another enclosure or directly in a computer if possible.
Slow data transfer speeds.
  • Connected to a USB 2.0 port.
  • Using a non-USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable.
  • Drive performance limitations.
  • Background processes on computer.
  • Ensure the docking station is connected to a USB 3.0 (or higher) port on your computer. These are often blue.
  • Use the provided USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable.
  • Older HDDs or slower SSDs will naturally have lower transfer speeds.
  • Close unnecessary applications and processes on your computer.
Offline clone fails or does not start.
  • Target drive capacity is smaller than source.
  • Drives not properly seated.
  • Incorrect button press sequence.
  • Faulty drives.
  • Ensure the Target drive's capacity is equal to or greater than the Source drive's capacity.
  • Re-insert both Source and Target drives firmly.
  • Ensure the docking station is disconnected from the computer. Press and hold the "Start" button for 5 seconds.
  • Test drives individually for functionality.
Only one drive is visible when two are inserted.
  • Drive not properly seated.
  • Drive not initialized/formatted.
  • Operating system issue.
  • Re-insert the invisible drive.
  • Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drive is detected but needs initialization or formatting.
  • Restart your computer.
