Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of the Journeyman-Pro NEMA 14-50 50 Amp, 125/250 Volt receptacle, Model HJP-2908. This industrial-grade receptacle is designed for high amperage draw applications, including RV hookups and Electric Vehicle (EV) charging. It is UL Listed for safety and constructed with durable materials for long-term performance.

Safety Information

Setup and Installation

The Journeyman-Pro HJP-2908 receptacle is designed for flush mounting in standard 1-gang or 2-gang electrical boxes. Mounting hardware is included.

1. Turn off Power: Locate the appropriate circuit breaker in your electrical panel and turn off the power to the installation area. Verify power is off using a voltage tester.
2. Prepare Wires: Strip approximately 3/4 inch of insulation from the ends of the copper wires (Line 1, Line 2, Neutral, Ground). Ensure the wire ends are clean and free of frayed strands.
3. Connect Wires: Refer to the "Wiring Instructions" section for detailed connection steps.
4. Mount Receptacle: Carefully push the wired receptacle into the electrical box. Align the mounting strap with the screw holes in the box. Secure the receptacle using the provided mounting screws.
5. Install Faceplate (Sold Separately): Attach a compatible 1-gang or 2-gang faceplate (standard 2.15" diameter for 2-gang cover plates) over the receptacle.
6. Restore Power: Once installation is complete and all connections are secure, turn the power back on at the circuit breaker.

Wiring Instructions

The HJP-2908 receptacle features heavy-duty Allen head screws for secure wire connections. A 4mm Allen wrench is included for this purpose. Terminals are clearly marked for easy identification.

• Ground (G): Connect the green or bare copper ground wire to the Green Lug Terminal ('G').
• Neutral (W): Connect the white neutral wire to the White Lug Terminal ('W').
• Line 1 (X): Connect the first hot wire (typically black) to one of the Red/Black Lug Terminals ('X' or 'Y').
• Line 2 (Y): Connect the second hot wire (typically red or black) to the remaining Red/Black Lug Terminal ('X' or 'Y').

Ensure all wires are fully inserted into their respective terminals and the Allen head screws are tightened firmly to prevent loose connections, which can cause overheating and fire hazards. The terminals accept #10 to #4 AWG copper wire.

Operation

Once properly installed and wired, the Journeyman-Pro NEMA 14-50 receptacle is ready for use. Insert a compatible NEMA 14-50 plug from your RV, EV charger, or other 50 Amp, 125/250V device into the receptacle. Ensure the plug is fully seated for a secure connection.

Maintenance

The Journeyman-Pro HJP-2908 receptacle requires minimal maintenance. Periodically inspect the receptacle for any signs of wear, damage, or discoloration. Ensure the plug fits snugly and there is no excessive heat buildup during use. If any issues are observed, disconnect power and consult a qualified electrician for inspection or replacement.

• Keep the receptacle clean and free from dust or debris.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• For outdoor units, regularly check the integrity of the weatherproof enclosure.

Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your Journeyman-Pro NEMA 14-50 receptacle, consider the following:

• No Power: Check the circuit breaker in your electrical panel. Ensure it is in the "ON" position. If it has tripped, reset it. If it trips repeatedly, there may be an electrical fault; consult an electrician.
• Loose Connection: If the plug feels loose or power is intermittent, turn off power at the breaker and inspect the receptacle's internal wiring connections. Ensure all Allen head screws are tight.
• Overheating: If the receptacle or plug feels excessively hot during use, immediately disconnect the device and turn off power. Overheating can indicate a loose connection, overloaded circuit, or damaged wiring. Consult a qualified electrician.
• Outdoor Use Issues: For outdoor installations, ensure the weatherproof enclosure is sealed correctly and the GFCI breaker is functioning.
