Setup and Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure you have all necessary tools and have turned off the water supply to your toilet. It is recommended to have a towel handy for any residual water.
1. Prepare the Toilet
Turn off the water supply valve located at the base of your toilet. Flush the toilet to drain the tank completely. Use a sponge or towel to remove any remaining water from the tank.
2. Remove Old Fill Valve
Locate the old fill valve inside the toilet tank. Unscrew the lock nut from the bottom of the fill valve, typically found underneath the tank. Disconnect the refill tube from the overflow pipe. Carefully lift and remove the old fill valve from the tank.

3. Install New Fill Valve
Adjust the height of the new Fluidmaster 400H-002 fill valve to match the height of your old valve or to fit your tank. The EZ-Twist feature allows adjustment from 9 to 14 inches. Insert the new fill valve into the hole at the bottom of the tank. Secure it with the new lock nut provided, tightening by hand. Connect the refill tube from the new fill valve to the overflow pipe.

Operating
The Fluidmaster 400H-002 is designed for efficient and quiet operation. Once installed, it automatically fills the tank to the desired level after each flush.
Water Level Adjustment
You can customize the water levels in both the tank and the bowl using the adjustment dials on top of the fill valve. This allows you to optimize flush performance and water usage.
- Tank Water Level: Use the grey dial labeled "TANK WATER" to adjust the water level in the tank. Turn towards '+' for more water, and '-' for less.
- Bowl Water Level: Use the blue dial labeled "BOWL WATER" to adjust the water level in the toilet bowl. This helps customize the perfect flush.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance can extend the life of your Fluidmaster fill valve and prevent common issues.
- Regular Cleaning: Periodically inspect the inside of your toilet tank for mineral buildup or debris. Clean as needed to ensure the fill valve operates smoothly.
- Check for Leaks: Routinely check for any signs of leaks around the fill valve or the water supply line. Address any leaks promptly to prevent water waste and potential damage.
- Inspect Components: Occasionally check the refill tube and adjustment mechanisms for any wear or damage.
Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
- Toilet Running Constantly/Noisy Fill: This is often caused by a faulty fill valve. Replacing the old valve with the Fluidmaster 400H-002 should resolve this. Ensure the fill valve is properly seated and the lock nut is tightened.
- Slow Tank Fill: Check for any obstructions in the water supply line or within the fill valve itself. Ensure the water supply valve is fully open.
- Water Level Too High/Low: Adjust the tank and bowl water level dials on the top of the fill valve as described in the Operating section.
- Valve Not Shutting Off: If the valve continues to run after the tank is full, ensure the float is not obstructed and can move freely. Adjust the water level to ensure it's not set too high.
