1. Important Safety Instructions

3. Setup and Assembly

3.1 Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the charger to a standard power outlet.
  2. Slide the battery pack onto the charger until it clicks into place.
  3. Allow the battery to charge fully. The charger indicator light will show when charging is complete.
  4. Remove the battery from the charger once fully charged.

3.2 Attaching the Battery

  • Align the battery pack with the battery port on the edger/cutter handle.
  • Slide the battery into the port until it locks securely into place. Ensure it is fully seated before operation.

3.3 Adjusting the Handle and Shaft Length

The edger/cutter features an adjustable shaft and auxiliary handle for comfortable operation tailored to your height and working position.

  • To adjust the shaft length, loosen the locking collar, extend or retract the shaft to the desired length, and then tighten the collar securely.
  • The auxiliary handle can be adjusted along the shaft for optimal balance and control. Loosen its clamp, slide to position, and retighten.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Starting and Stopping the Tool

  • To start: Press and hold the safety lock-out button, then squeeze the trigger switch.
  • To stop: Release the trigger switch. The cutting line will stop rotating.

4.2 Edging and Trimming Techniques

The RYOBI edger/cutter is designed for both trimming grass and creating clean edges along pathways and flowerbeds.

  • Trimming: Hold the tool with the cutting head parallel to the ground. Move the tool slowly and steadily across the area to be trimmed.
  • Edging (EasyEdge Function): The tool features an EasyEdge function for quick conversion from trimming to edging. Rotate the shaft 90 degrees to position the cutting head vertically. Use the guide wheel to maintain a consistent depth along hard surfaces.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Tool

  • Always remove the battery pack before cleaning.
  • Wipe the tool clean with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Clear any grass clippings or debris from the cutting head and guard.

5.2 Replacing the Cutting Line

Refer to the specific instructions provided with your replacement cutting line for detailed steps. Generally, this involves removing the spool cap, replacing the empty spool with a new one, and reattaching the cap.

5.3 Battery Care and Storage

  • Store batteries in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Do not store batteries in a discharged state for extended periods. Charge them periodically.
  • Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.
