Video 1: Use Guidance of KPM-35 and KLS-35. This video demonstrates the basic operation and usage of both the optical power meter and light source.

6.2. Optical Power Measurement

  1. Connect the KLS-35 Optical Light Source to one end of the fiber optic cable using a patch cable (bridle wire).
  2. Connect the KPM-35 Optical Power Meter to the other end of the fiber optic cable.
  3. Ensure both the KLS-35 and KPM-35 are set to the same wavelength.
  4. The KPM-35 will display the measured optical power in dBm.

6.3. Self-Calibration (KPM-35)

The KPM-35 supports self-calibration to maintain accuracy. Follow these steps:

  1. Connect the KLS-35 Light Source to the KPM-35 Power Meter using a short patch cable.
  2. Ensure both devices are powered on and set to the same wavelength.
  3. On the KPM-35, press the REF/dB button briefly to enter the last cleared data mode.
  4. To enter the adjustment page for calibration, press and hold the REF/dB button and the LED light button (💡) simultaneously.
  5. Use the wavelength button (λ) to adjust the calibration value downwards and the REF/dB button to adjust it upwards until the desired reference value (e.g., 0.00 dB) is achieved.
  6. After adjustment, press the LED light button (💡) to save the parameters.

6.4. Optical Loss Measurement

To measure optical loss, you will need to establish a reference power level first.

  1. Set Reference:
    1. Connect the KLS-35 Light Source directly to the KPM-35 Power Meter using a short, known good patch cable.
    2. Ensure both devices are set to the same wavelength.
    3. On the KPM-35, press and hold the REF/dB button until the screen shows "REF" (or a similar indicator) and the display reads 0.00 dB. This sets the reference power.
  2. Measure Loss:
    1. Disconnect the KPM-35 from the KLS-35.
    2. Connect the KLS-35 to one end of the fiber optic line you wish to test.
    3. Connect the KPM-35 to the other end of the fiber optic line.
    4. The KPM-35 will now display the optical loss in dB relative to the set reference.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning Optical Ports

Regularly clean the optical ports and fiber connectors to ensure accurate measurements. Use lint-free wipes and appropriate fiber optic cleaning solutions or tools. Never use abrasive materials.

7.2. Battery Care

If the devices will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
