3.2 Battery Installation

The caliper typically comes with a battery pre-installed or included separately. If not installed, locate the battery compartment cover on the digital unit, usually on the back or side. Open the cover, insert the battery (typically a CR2032 coin cell) with the positive (+) side facing up, and close the cover securely.

3.3 Initial Power On and Zero Setting

  1. Press the ON/OFF button to power on the caliper.
  2. Close the measuring jaws completely.
  3. Press the ZERO/SET button to set the display to zero. This establishes the reference point for all subsequent measurements.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Measurement

The digital caliper can perform four types of measurements:

  • External Measurement: Use the large jaws to measure outside dimensions.
  • Internal Measurement: Use the small jaws to measure inside dimensions.
  • Depth Measurement: Use the depth rod to measure depths.
  • Step Measurement: Use the step face at the end of the main beam to measure steps.

Ensure the measuring surfaces are clean before taking a measurement. Apply light, consistent pressure when closing the jaws on the object.

4.2 Unit Conversion (mm/inch)

Press the in/mm button to switch between millimeters and inches. The selected unit will be displayed on the LCD.

4.3 ABS (Absolute) Measurement

The ABS function allows you to set a zero point at any position, enabling incremental measurements from that point. Press the ABS button to activate this mode. The display will show 'ABS' to indicate it is active. Press it again to return to normal measurement mode.

4.4 Data Output

This caliper supports data output. Refer to the specific data cable and software instructions for connecting the caliper to a computer or data logger for measurement recording.

4.5 Locking Screw

The knurled locking screw can be tightened to hold the slider in position, securing a measurement for later reading or transfer.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the measuring surfaces and the main beam with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth. Avoid using solvents or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the display or the caliper's finish. The IP54 rating indicates protection against dust and splashing water, but it is not fully submersible.

5.2 Storage

When not in use, store the caliper in its protective case in a dry, clean environment. Avoid exposing it to direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, or high humidity. Ensure the jaws are slightly open to prevent pressure on the measuring surfaces.

5.3 Battery Replacement

When the display becomes dim or erratic, it is time to replace the battery. Follow the instructions in Section 3.2 for battery installation. Dispose of old batteries responsibly.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Display / Caliper Not Turning On:
    • Check if the battery is correctly installed with the correct polarity.
    • Replace the battery with a new one.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Ensure the measuring surfaces are clean and free from dust or debris.
    • Perform a zero-setting procedure (Section 3.3).
    • Check for any physical damage to the jaws or the main beam.
    • Avoid excessive force when taking measurements.
  • Display Flashing or Erratic:
    • The battery may be low; replace it.
    • Ensure the caliper is not exposed to strong electromagnetic interference.
