3.1 Front Panel Description

  • PWR LED:
    • Green: The device is powered on and operating normally.
    • Off: The device is not receiving power.
  • PoE LED:
    • Green: Power over Ethernet (PoE) is active and supplying power to a connected Powered Device (PD).
    • Off: PoE is not active or no PD is connected.
  • DATA IN Port (RJ-45): Connects to your network switch, router, or other non-PoE network device. This port receives data only.
  • PoE/DATA OUT Port (RJ-45): Connects to your PoE-compatible Powered Device (PD), such as an IP camera, wireless access point, or VoIP phone. This port transmits both data and power.

3.2 Rear Panel Description

  • AC INPUT (100-240VAC 50/60Hz 1.5A MAX): Connect the provided AC power cord to this input to power the injector.

4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to set up your Edimax GP-103IT PoE++ Injector.

4.1 Connecting the Injector

  1. Power Connection: Connect the AC power cord to the "AC INPUT" port on the rear of the GP-103IT and then plug the other end into a standard electrical outlet. The "PWR" LED on the front panel should illuminate green.
  2. Data Input Connection: Connect an Ethernet cable from your network switch, router, or other non-PoE network device to the "DATA IN" port on the front of the GP-103IT.
  3. PoE Output Connection: Connect another Ethernet cable from the "PoE/DATA OUT" port on the front of the GP-103IT to your PoE-compatible Powered Device (PD). Ensure the PD is compliant with IEEE 802.3bt or earlier PoE standards (802.3af/at) that can be powered by this injector.
  4. Verify Connection: Once the PD is connected, the "PoE" LED on the front panel of the GP-103IT should illuminate green, indicating that power is being supplied to the PD.

4.2 Mounting Options

The GP-103IT offers flexible placement options:

  • Desktop Placement: Simply place the injector on a flat, stable surface.
  • Wall-Mounting: The injector can be mounted on a wall using screws (not included) through the mounting holes on the bottom of the unit. Ensure the mounting surface is sturdy enough to support the device.

This image demonstrates the two primary installation methods for the GP-103IT: traditional desktop placement and wall-mounting for space efficiency.

5. Operating the Injector

Once properly connected, the Edimax GP-103IT operates automatically. It will detect the connected Powered Device (PD) and supply the necessary power according to the IEEE 802.3bt standard.

  • The PWR LED should remain solid green, indicating the injector is powered on.
  • The PoE LED should illuminate solid green when a compatible PD is connected and receiving power. If the PoE LED is off, check the connection to the PD and ensure the PD is PoE-compatible.
  • Data transmission will occur transparently through the injector between your network and the PD.

6. Maintenance

The Edimax GP-103IT is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance and longevity:

  • Keep the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive moisture.
  • Ensure proper ventilation around the device. Do not block the ventilation holes.
  • Clean the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your GP-103IT, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No Power (PWR LED Off)
  • Power cord not connected properly.
  • Power outlet is not active.
  • Ensure the AC power cord is securely connected to both the injector and the power outlet.
  • Test the power outlet with another device.
No PoE Output (PoE LED Off)
  • Connected device is not PoE-compatible.
  • Ethernet cable to PD is faulty or too long.
  • PD requires more power than 90W.
  • Verify that your Powered Device (PD) supports IEEE 802.3bt or compatible PoE standards.
  • Use a known good, shorter Ethernet cable (Cat5e or better) for the PoE/DATA OUT connection.
  • Ensure the PD's power requirements do not exceed 90W.
No Data Transmission
  • Ethernet cables are faulty or improperly connected.
  • Network device (switch/router) is not functioning.
  • PD is not functioning.
  • Check all Ethernet cable connections. Try different cables.
  • Verify that your network switch/router is operational.
  • Ensure the Powered Device (PD) is working correctly when connected directly to a network without PoE.
