2. Adjusting the NATO Strap
The watch is fitted with a black and orange synthetic NATO strap. To adjust the strap, thread the long end through the two keepers after passing it under the watch case. Ensure a comfortable fit on your wrist, allowing for slight movement without being too loose or too tight. The tang buckle secures the strap.

3. Initial Winding (Automatic Movement)
Your Certina DS ACTION Diver watch is powered by an automatic movement. If the watch has stopped, it needs to be manually wound to start. Unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it springs free. Gently turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will provide enough power reserve to start the watch. The watch will then continue to wind itself through the motion of your wrist during wear.
4. Setting Time and Date
- Unscrew the Crown: Unscrew the crown counter-clockwise until it is free.
- Set the Date: Pull the crown out to the first click position. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise (depending on the movement) to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
- Set the Time: Pull the crown out to the second click position. The second hand will stop. Turn the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accurate time, synchronize with a reliable time source.
- Secure the Crown: Once the time and date are set, push the crown back in and screw it clockwise tightly against the case to ensure water resistance.
Operating the Watch
1. Automatic Movement
The Powermatic 80 movement is an automatic mechanical caliber that harnesses the motion of your wrist to power the watch. When fully wound, it offers an impressive power reserve of approximately 80 hours. Regular wear will keep the watch wound. If not worn for an extended period, it will stop and require manual winding as described in the Setup section.
2. Water Resistance
This watch is water-resistant up to 300 meters (990 feet), conforming to ISO 6425 standards for diving watches. This means it is suitable for professional diving, snorkeling, and other water sports. Always ensure the crown is fully screwed down before exposing the watch to water to maintain its water resistance.
3. Unidirectional Rotating Bezel
The bezel rotates in one direction only (counter-clockwise) to prevent accidental changes that could overestimate elapsed time during a dive. To use it, align the triangle marker on the bezel with the minute hand at the start of your dive. The minute hand will then indicate the elapsed time on the bezel's scale.
4. Luminous Markers
The hands and hour markers are coated with a luminous material to ensure readability in low-light conditions, including underwater. Exposure to light will charge the luminous elements.
Maintenance
1. Cleaning
To clean your watch, use a soft, damp cloth. For the titanium case and synthetic strap, a mild soap solution can be used. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after exposure to saltwater or chlorine, and dry with a soft cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
2. Water Resistance Checks
It is recommended to have the water resistance of your watch checked by an authorized Certina service center every 2-3 years, or annually if frequently used for diving. Gaskets and seals can degrade over time, affecting water resistance.
3. Storage
When not wearing your watch, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and strong magnetic fields. The original watch box provides excellent protection.
Troubleshooting
- Watch Not Running: If the watch has stopped, manually wind it by unscrewing the crown and turning it clockwise 20-30 times. If it still does not start, it may require professional service.
- Date Not Changing: Ensure the time is set correctly, passing 12 AM for the date to advance. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM. If the issue persists, consult an authorized service center.
- Condensation Under Crystal: If you notice condensation inside the watch, this indicates a loss of water resistance. Immediately take the watch to an authorized service center to prevent further damage.
- Bezel Stiff or Difficult to Turn: Rinse the bezel area with fresh water to remove any debris. If it remains stiff, professional cleaning or service may be required.
For any issues not covered here, or if troubleshooting steps do not resolve the problem, please contact an authorized Certina service center.
