4. Setup

  1. Battery Installation: Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device. Open it and insert three 1.5V AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity. Close the compartment securely.
  2. Remove Protective Cap: Carefully remove the protective cap covering the measurement pins at the top of the device. Keep the cap for safe storage when not in use.
  3. Power On: Press the Power Key (Power button icon) to turn on the meter. The LCD display will illuminate.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

Press the Power Key to turn the device on. To turn it off, press and hold the Power Key for approximately 2 seconds, or allow the automatic power-off function to engage after 10 minutes of inactivity.

5.2 Unit Selection (℃/℉)

Press the ℃/℉ button to switch the temperature display between Celsius and Fahrenheit. This button also cycles through ambient humidity readings.

5.3 Material Category Selection

The HT633 features 7 built-in material categories to ensure accurate moisture readings for different types of wood and building materials. Press the M button to cycle through these categories (A, B, C, D, E, F, G). Refer to the included quick reference guide for specific material types corresponding to each category.

5.4 Taking a Measurement

  1. Select the appropriate material category using the M button.
  2. Carefully push the measurement pins into the surface of the material you wish to test. Ensure both pins are fully inserted for an accurate reading.
  3. The moisture content percentage will be displayed on the LCD screen.
  4. To hold the current reading, press the H button. Press it again to release.

5.5 Interpreting Readings (Tricolor Backlight)

The HT633 features a tricolor backlit LCD display that visually indicates the moisture content level:

  • Green Backlight: Indicates low moisture content (Dry).
  • Orange Backlight: Indicates moderate moisture content (Moist).
  • Red Backlight: Indicates high moisture content (Wet).

5.6 Temperature and Humidity Measurement

In addition to material moisture, the device can measure ambient temperature and relative humidity. These readings are displayed on the upper part of the LCD screen. Use the ℃/℉ button to toggle between temperature units.

5.7 Data Hold Function

Press the H button to hold the current measurement on the display. This is useful for recording readings in hard-to-reach areas. Press the button again to exit hold mode.

5.8 Automatic Power-Off

The device is equipped with an automatic power-off function to conserve battery life. If no operation is performed for approximately 10 minutes, the meter will automatically shut down.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Always replace the protective cap over the measurement pins when not in use to prevent damage and injury. Store the meter in a dry, cool place.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
  • Pin Replacement: If the measurement pins become dull or damaged, use the provided stainless steel wrench to replace them with the spare pins.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Protmex HT633, please consider the following:

  • No Display/Power Issues: Check battery installation and ensure batteries are not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings: Ensure the correct material category is selected. Verify that the measurement pins are fully inserted into the material and are not bent or damaged. Ambient temperature and humidity can affect readings; ensure the device has acclimatized to the environment.
  • Display shows 'Lo': This indicates very low moisture content, possibly below the meter's measurable range for the selected material.
  • Pins not penetrating: Ensure the material is not excessively hard or dense. Do not force the pins, as this may damage them or the device.
