1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your SHARK Vertex DuoClean PowerFins Powered Lift-Away Upright Vacuum Cleaner, model AZ1501. This vacuum is designed for deep cleaning carpets and directly engaging hard floors with its DuoClean PowerFins technology. It also features a Powered Lift-Away mode for versatile cleaning and Anti-Allergen Complete Seal Technology with a HEPA filter.

Important Safety Instructions

3. Assembly and Setup

Follow these steps to assemble your vacuum cleaner:

  1. Place the motorized floor nozzle on a level surface.
  2. Insert the wand into the nozzle until it clicks securely into place.
  3. Slide the vacuum pod onto the wand and lower it onto the nozzle post until it clicks.
  4. Attach the hose to the back of the vacuum pod by pressing it into the connector until it clicks.
  5. Store the included accessories (Crevice Tool, Pet Multi-Tool) on the accessory posts located on the vacuum pod.

4. Operating Instructions

Your SHARK Vertex vacuum offers multiple cleaning modes and features for various surfaces.

Power and Mode Selection

The fingertip controls on the handle allow you to easily switch between cleaning modes:

  • Hard Floor Mode: For bare floors and delicate area rugs. The brushrolls spin slowly.
  • Carpet Mode: For carpets and thicker area rugs. The brushrolls spin faster to pick up embedded debris.

DuoClean PowerFins Technology

The DuoClean PowerFins feature a two-brushroll system designed to deep-clean carpets and directly engage hard floors for a polished look. This system ensures nonstop contact with the floor, enhancing debris pickup.

Self-Cleaning Brushroll

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance of your vacuum cleaner.

Emptying the Dust Cup

Empty the dust cup after each use or when debris reaches the MAX FILL line.

  1. Press the dust cup release button and lift the dust cup off the vacuum pod.
  2. Hold the dust cup over a trash bin and press the bottom release latch to open the bottom of the dust cup.
  3. Close the bottom flap until it clicks. If necessary, press the top release latch to access the filter screen and remove any accumulated debris.

Filter Maintenance

Rinse the foam and felt filters every 3 months, or as needed, to maintain suction power. The HEPA filter should be rinsed once a year. Allow all filters to air dry completely before reinstalling.

  • Pre-Motor Filters (Foam and Felt): Located above the dust cup. Remove and rinse with water.
  • Post-Motor Filter (HEPA): Located at the bottom of the vacuum pod. Remove the cover and rinse the filter with water.

Brushroll Maintenance

While the brushroll is self-cleaning, periodically inspect the floor nozzle for any debris, string, or hair wrapped around the brushrolls. Use scissors to carefully cut away any obstructions.

6. Troubleshooting

If your vacuum cleaner is not performing as expected, consult the following troubleshooting guide:
