3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Archer AXE300 router. You can use either the TP-Link Tether app or a web browser for initial configuration.

3.1 Hardware Connection

  1. Power Off Modem: Unplug the power from your modem. If it has a backup battery, remove it.
  2. Connect Router: Connect your modem to the router's WAN port (usually blue) using an Ethernet cable.
  3. Power On Modem: Plug in and power on your modem. Wait approximately 2 minutes for it to restart.
  4. Power On Router: Connect the power adapter to the router and turn it on.
  5. Verify LED Status: Wait for the router's LEDs to stabilize. The Power, 2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz, and Internet LEDs should be solid green, indicating a successful connection.

3.2 Network Setup (via TP-Link Tether App)

  1. Download Tether App: Download the TP-Link Tether app from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Log In/Create TP-Link ID: Open the Tether app and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don't have one, create an account.
  3. Add Router: Tap the '+' button in the Tether app, select 'Router' > 'Wireless Router', and follow the on-screen steps to complete the setup and connect to the internet.
  4. Set Wi-Fi Network Name and Password: Customize your Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) and passwords for each band (2.4GHz, 5GHz-1, 5GHz-2, 6GHz).

3.3 Network Setup (via Web Browser)

  1. Connect to Router: Connect your device to the router wirelessly or with an Ethernet cable. The default Wi-Fi network names (SSIDs) and password are printed on the label at the bottom of the router.
  2. Launch Web Browser: Open a web browser and enter http://tplinkwifi.net or http://192.168.0.1 in the address bar.
  3. Create Password: Create a password to log in.
  4. Follow Instructions: Follow the step-by-step instructions to set up the internet connection and register for the TP-Link Cloud service.

4. Operating Instructions

Manage your network settings and connected devices through the Tether app or the web management interface.

4.1 Wi-Fi Settings

  • Smart Connect: Enable or disable Smart Connect to combine 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands into a single network name for optimal performance.
  • Separate Bands: If Smart Connect is disabled, you can configure individual SSIDs and passwords for each band (2.4GHz, 5GHz-1, 5GHz-2, 6GHz).
  • Guest Network: Create separate guest networks for visitors, with options to enable/disable specific bands and set security.

4.2 Client Management

  • View all connected clients in real-time.
  • Set speed limits for individual devices.
  • Block unwanted devices from accessing your network.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Check Connections: Ensure all cables are securely connected to the router and modem.
  • Restart Devices: Power cycle your modem and router by unplugging them for 30 seconds and then plugging them back in.
  • Verify LED Status: Check the router's LEDs to diagnose connection issues (e.g., solid green for active, blinking for activity, red/orange for issues).
  • Network Diagnostics: Use the built-in network diagnostics tool in the web interface to identify and resolve common network problems.
  • Wi-Fi Interference: If experiencing slow Wi-Fi speeds, check for Wi-Fi interference in the HomeShield section of the web interface and optimize channels if necessary.
  • Reset Router: If problems persist, perform a factory reset. Locate the Reset button on the router (often a small pinhole) and press and hold it for about 10 seconds until the LEDs flash. Note: This will erase all your custom settings.
