3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The BSIDE L1 Digital Lux Meter requires one 9V battery (not included) for operation. Follow these steps to install the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide the battery compartment cover downwards to open it.
- Connect a new 9V battery to the battery connector, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Place the battery into the compartment.
- Slide the battery compartment cover back into place until it clicks securely.

Note: If the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the battery promptly to ensure accurate measurements.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
- To turn on the device, press the red Power On/Off button. The LCD display will illuminate.
- To turn off the device, press the red Power On/Off button again.
- The meter features an automatic power-off function to save battery. If no button is pressed for approximately 15 minutes, the device will power off automatically.
4.2 Taking a Measurement
To obtain an accurate light measurement:
- Remove the protective lid from the measurement sensor.
- Point the measurement sensor towards the light source or the area where you wish to measure illuminance. Ensure no shadows or obstructions are covering the sensor.
- Read the illuminance value directly from the LCD display.

4.3 Switching Units (Lux/Fc)
The meter can display readings in Lux or Foot-candles (Fc).
- With the device powered on, short press the MODE button to toggle between Lux and Fc units. The selected unit will be displayed on the LCD.
4.4 Data Hold Function
To freeze the current reading on the display:
- Short press the HOLD button. The "HOLD" indicator will appear on the display, and the reading will be frozen.
- To release the hold function and resume live measurements, short press the HOLD button again. The "HOLD" indicator will disappear.
4.5 MAX/MIN Readings
The meter can record the maximum and minimum illuminance values during a measurement session.
- Long press the MODE button (for approximately 2 seconds). The "MAX" indicator will appear, displaying the maximum value recorded since entering this mode.
- Long press the MODE button again to switch to "MIN" mode, displaying the minimum recorded value.
- Long press the MODE button a third time to exit MAX/MIN mode and return to live measurement.
4.6 Auto/Manual Ranging
The meter defaults to auto-ranging, automatically selecting the most appropriate measurement range. For specific applications, manual ranging can be used.
- To switch to manual ranging, long press the HOLD button (for approximately 2 seconds). The "AUTO" indicator on the display will disappear.
- While in manual ranging mode, short press the HOLD button to cycle through the available ranges (e.g., 200 Lux, 2000 Lux, 20000 Lux, 200000 Lux).
- To return to auto-ranging, long press the HOLD button again. The "AUTO" indicator will reappear.
