2. Setup
Follow these steps for initial setup and connection of your BILT HARD Propane Heater.
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the heater from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Report any damage immediately to the retailer.
- Placement: Place the heater on a level, stable, non-combustible surface. Ensure adequate clearance from all combustible materials as specified in the Safety Information section.
- Connect Propane Tank:
- Ensure the propane tank valve is closed.
- Connect the regulator hose to the propane tank valve. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench to secure it firmly.
- Connect the other end of the hose to the heater's gas inlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
- Perform a leak test: Apply a soap and water solution to all gas connections. Open the propane tank valve slowly. If bubbles appear, close the valve immediately and re-tighten connections. Repeat until no bubbles are present.
- Electrical Connection: Plug the heater's power cord into a grounded 120V AC electrical outlet.

- Pre-Season Check: Before each heating season, inspect the hose and regulator for cracks, cuts, or damage. Replace if necessary. Ensure all connections are secure.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your heater, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Heater does not ignite | No propane flow, faulty ignition, no electrical power | Check propane tank valve, ensure tank has fuel, verify electrical connection, check ignition button. |
| Flame goes out during operation | Low propane, insufficient ventilation, safety flame-out system activated | Replace propane tank, ensure adequate ventilation, restart heater after checking connections. |
| Heater shuts off unexpectedly | Overheat protection activated, low oxygen sensor activated | Allow heater to cool, ensure proper ventilation, check for obstructions. |
| Smell of gas | Gas leak | Immediately shut off propane tank, unplug heater, evacuate area, and contact qualified service personnel. Do not operate. |
If problems persist after attempting these solutions, contact BILT HARD customer service.
