Read and understand all safety warnings and instructions before operating this heater. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, explosion, serious injury, or death. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Ventilation: This heater requires adequate ventilation. Operate only in well-ventilated areas. Do not use in unventilated spaces, basements, or enclosed areas. Ensure a minimum opening of 3 square feet for every 100,000 BTU/hr of heater output.
  • Fuel: Use only liquid propane (LP) gas. Do not use natural gas or any other fuel. Connect the heater only to a 20 lb. or larger propane cylinder.
  • Clearances: Maintain minimum clearances from combustible materials: 6 feet from the front, 2 feet from the top, 2 feet from the sides, and 2 feet from the rear.
  • Electrical: Connect the heater to a properly grounded 120V AC outlet. Do not use extension cords unless absolutely necessary and ensure they are rated for outdoor use and the heater's power requirements.
  • Operation: Never leave the heater unattended while operating. Do not move, handle, or service the heater while it is hot or connected to a power source/fuel supply.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the heater at all times.
  • CSA Certified: This heater is CSA certified, indicating compliance with applicable safety standards.

2. Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup and connection of your BILT HARD Propane Heater.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the heater from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Report any damage immediately to the retailer.
  2. Placement: Place the heater on a level, stable, non-combustible surface. Ensure adequate clearance from all combustible materials as specified in the Safety Information section.
  3. Connect Propane Tank:
    • Ensure the propane tank valve is closed.
    • Connect the regulator hose to the propane tank valve. Hand-tighten first, then use a wrench to secure it firmly.
    • Connect the other end of the hose to the heater's gas inlet. Ensure all connections are tight to prevent leaks.
    • Perform a leak test: Apply a soap and water solution to all gas connections. Open the propane tank valve slowly. If bubbles appear, close the valve immediately and re-tighten connections. Repeat until no bubbles are present.
  4. Electrical Connection: Plug the heater's power cord into a grounded 120V AC electrical outlet.
