4. Operating System & Applications

The HOMPOW C55 runs on Android TV 9.0, offering a user-friendly interface for accessing various content.

4.1 Android TV Launcher

The Android TV launcher is configured with horizontal scrolling panels for featured apps, recommended apps, and recommended movies. Navigating to the left reveals a pop-up menu where you can access different categories of apps, games, movies, and videos.

4.2 App Management & Side-loading

The app section includes an APK app store. While it may not be Google Certified, it allows you to side-load your own APK app stores (such as Aptoide or APKPure) by navigating to your flash drive or external hard drive via the USB option. Once installed, you gain access to your favorite APK apps and games.

It's important to note that the included infrared remote does not have a mouse pointer feature. However, you can connect a wireless air mouse with a USB dongle or via Bluetooth to enable a mouse cursor option for easier navigation.

4.3 DRM Information & Streaming Limitations

The projector is not Google Certified, which means it may not have the necessary digital rights management (DRM) to run subscription services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in HD or 4K quality. The device only has Google Widevine Level 3 with no HDCP protection. This may limit streaming quality on certain platforms.

5. Media Playback

The C55 projector supports various media formats and offers built-in decoders for enhanced audio-visual experience.

5.1 Video Playback

The projector has built-in decoders that allow you to play 4K videos and scale them down to 1080p. For YouTube videos, you can install the Android TV version or the smart YouTube TV version. Both apps limit the resolution to 720p with no HDR.

5.2 Audio Playback

The projector includes built-in decoders for Dolby and DTS audio playback. Its internal speaker provides decent sound quality, but for a more immersive experience, you can pair Bluetooth headphones, Bluetooth speakers, or audio receivers.

7.2 Lamp Life

8. Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

  • Image is blurry: Use the manual focus buttons on the remote or re-initiate autofocus. Check for obstructions in front of the lens.
  • Image is distorted (not rectangular): Adjust keystone correction manually or enable automatic trapezoid correction in settings.
  • No sound from streaming apps (e.g., Netflix): This projector may not support certain DRM-protected content in high quality due to Widevine L3. Consider connecting an external streaming device (like a Fire Stick or Roku) to an HDMI port for full compatibility.
  • Cannot connect to Wi-Fi/Bluetooth: Ensure the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth is enabled in settings. Check your network connection. Try restarting the projector.
  • Projector freezes or is unresponsive: Perform a factory reset via the System Update settings.
  • Overheating: Ensure the dust filter is clean and the cooling fan vents are not obstructed. Allow the projector to rest every few hours during extended use.
