1. Introduction

The MOOER Pitch Step is a compact and versatile pitch-shifting and harmony pedal designed for guitarists. It offers polyphonic pitch-shifting capabilities and includes MOOER's unique pressure sensing technology for dynamic control. This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Pitch Step pedal to ensure optimal performance.

2. Features

  • Fast and accurate polyphonic pitch-shifting.
  • Optional dry signal for harmonization effects.
  • Customizable pitch adjustment for -OCT (octave down) and +OCT (octave up) ranges.
  • Adjustable shifting range and direction.
  • Incorporates MOOER’s unique pressure sensing technology for expressive control.
  • Supports 9V battery power for portability.

3. Setup

3.1 Power Connection

The Pitch Step pedal operates on a 9V DC power supply (not included) or a 9V battery. Connect a standard 9V DC adapter to the power input jack. If using a battery, ensure it is correctly installed in the battery compartment.

3.2 Audio Connections

Connect your instrument (e.g., guitar) to the INPUT jack on the pedal using a standard 1/4-inch audio cable. Connect the OUTPUT jack of the pedal to your amplifier or next effect pedal in your signal chain using another 1/4-inch audio cable.

  • Sensor/Switch Mode: This toggle determines how the pedal is engaged.

4.2 Adjusting Pitch and Harmony

Use the -OCT and +OCT switches to select the desired pitch interval for shifting. The pedal allows for customizable adjustments within these octave ranges. Engage the Harmony switch to blend your original dry signal with the shifted pitch, creating rich harmonic textures.

4.3 Utilizing Pressure Sensing Technology

The MOOER Pitch Step incorporates advanced pressure sensing technology. When the pedal is in Sensor mode, the effect engages as soon as pressure is applied to the footpad, allowing for dynamic and expressive pitch manipulation without needing to click a switch. Experiment with varying pressure to achieve different nuances in your sound.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MOOER Pitch Step pedal, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the pedal's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents, which can damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Connections: Periodically check all cable connections for wear and tear. Ensure jacks are free of dust and debris.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Pitch Step pedal, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all audio cable connections.
    • Ensure the power supply is correctly connected and functioning, or that the 9V battery has sufficient charge.
    • Verify that your instrument and amplifier are working correctly.
  • Inaccurate Pitch Tracking:
    • While the pedal offers polyphonic shifting, complex chords or very fast playing may sometimes affect tracking accuracy. Try simplifying your input or adjusting your playing style.
    • Ensure your instrument is properly intonated.
  • Effect Stays On/Off Unexpectedly (Sensor Mode):
    • The pressure sensor can be sensitive. Ensure your foot is fully removed from the pedal when you want the effect off.
    • If the effect remains active when your heel is on the ground, try adjusting your foot placement or switching to Switch mode if preferred.
  • Unwanted Noise:
    • Ensure you are using a high-quality, regulated 9V DC power supply.
    • Check for ground loops in your signal chain.
